Roderick Paulate BiographyRoderick Paulate is a Filipino actor, host, politician and a popular comedian in the Philippine showbiz industry. He studied at Jose Rizal College for his secondary education. He started his career in the show business as a child actor and was awarded many times for his acting talent. He received his first best child actor award for the movie Kasalanan Kaya during the Manila Film Festival in 1968 and again won in the Famas Award in 1970 for the movie Anghel Na Walang Langit. From being a child actor, Roderick’s talent evolved into taking gay roles. It was in the movie High School Circa ’65 where he first appeared on the screen with a gay role in Filipino movies. He then took the main lead role in the movie Charot. The movie was inspired from the movie Tootsie of Dustin Hoffman.
The moviegoers love Roderick in portraying gay roles that his movie Inday Inday Sa Balitaw became a hit with the masses. This gave him his biggest break in making movies like Jack en Poy, Bb. Tsuperman, 1+1=12+1, and Kumander Gringa. He made these four movies in just eight months which was a record breaking acting stint for an actor. Roderick continued to appear in the movies and television shows portraying a gay role. Roderick was a famous child actor in his time, winning 6 best child actor awards. He also won the best supporting actor award in 1996. The Asian Television Awards also awarded him as the best actor in drama and gave the same award in 2000 again for his role in Wristwatch which was an episode in Maalaala Mo Kaya under the ABS CBN Network.
Roderick tried his luck in politics and run as a councilor for Quezon City in 2010 and he won. He lay low in his acting career and concentrated on his political career. He was however charged with graft and corruption for gross neglect of duty, grave misconduct and serious dishonesty, falsification of official document and gross misconduct in 2012. He was placed under preventive suspension for 6 months without pay after he was charged for ghost employee in the city hall but the appellate court ordered the lifting of the preventive suspension due to lack of sufficient ground. He ran again in the recently concluded 2013 election and won.
