Pia Arcangel BiographyPia Arcangel-Halili or more commonly called Pia Arcangel in the Philippine media and entertainment is a Filipino journalist and newscaster. She was born on December 8, 1978 in Manila, Philippines. Pia is the daughter of the Dean of the University of Santo Tomas, College of Education, Professor Clotilde N. Arcangel. Pia is married to Mico Halili, an AKTV presenter and an ABC Sports Commentator. She had finished her degree in AB Communications in 2000 at the Ateneo de Manila University.
She is a co-anchor of “Balitanghali,” and afternoon newscast together with Raffy Tima. Pia was also a host of At Angel, which is a weekly children-oriented show over GMA7. She is also a cast of “24 Oras Weekend Edition,” opposite Jiggy Manicad. Pia has also earned her respects in her news casting career and even Anchor and veteran media personality Mike Enriquez believes in her dedication and determination to make better in her career as a news and TV personality and host at the same time.
Back in her college days, she used to be a courtside reporter, and was a popular champion world debater. She was the ever first woman who was allowed to do so and witness the days of UAAP sports casting. Pia accepted the challenge for the love of Ateneo Blue Eagles that she auditioned as a courtside reporter. It was also the moment wherein she met her future husband, Mico.
Her experience as a courtside reporter had helped her train for her future newscasting stint. Pia shares that it was newscasting that she would love to do. She recalls Sev Sarmienta, her professor and also a sportscaster, saying that sportscasting is an excellent training ground for news reporting, and she believed him. After the courtside reporting she tried her luck in GMA, and applied as a reporter. The rest was history. Pia was then assigned several reporting jobs, co-hosted shows, and even became a mainstay of children oriented and educational show “Art Angel,” over GMA 7.
She advices those aspiring courtside reporters to just take the challenge and enjoy what you are doing while learning the process along the way. Make the most of the news casting, and sports casting news, little bit of news, entertainment and sports.
Pia is still visible as an anchor in various news and current affairs programs over GMA Network. GMA is very proud and happy that they were not mistaken to get Pia to work with the network. She is so loyal and dedicated that she sees to it that all assignments are properly done to assure quality of her work. Also, she takes credit to her ever supportive husband who understands her career as much as his, because they are both on the same field of expertise.
Pia had already earned her strife being one of the most bankable, trusted and reliable news anchorwoman of her TV shows and programs. She hopes to stay longer in the media so that she can still be of public service, always providing a factual and truth to her news reporting.
