Tom Rodriguez Explains His Decision To Move To GMA-7 From ABS-CBNDespite a fairly successful stint on the country's number one daytime program, ABS-CBN's "Be Careful With My Heart," former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Tom Rodriguez decided to transfer to GMA-7.
Although it wasn't an easy decision, Rodriguez said it was hard to deny himself the opportunity to work with Dennis Trillo and Carla Abellana. He also said his "gay role" in GMA's upcoming teleserye "My Husband's Lover" attracted him to the network.
In the teleserye, Rodriguez will be playing Vincent, a closet gay who is married to Lally (Abellana) but has a relationship with Eric (Trillo), an architect. This is the first time a teleserye will tackle the relationships between homosexuals, and Rodriguez finds it interesting.
When he bids goodbye to the cast of "Be Careful With My Heart," they were all emotional, Rodriguez said. There, she plays Jeff, the father of Cho (JM Ibanez) and love interest of Kute (Aiza Seguerra).
"Nagpaalam naman ako nang maayos, nag-iyakan nga ang co-stars ko on my last taping day with them. Pinalabas na lang na nag-abroad ang character ko."
The role on "My Husband's Lover" wasn't exactly offered to him. He auditioned for it.
"This is a lot of firsts for me. First soap ko sa GMA, first time ko to work with Carla, Dennis and Director Dom, first time ko to play a gay character. I really like the script which is very well written and I couldn’t just let it pass. I’m proud and honored to be part of the show."
So that he can play the role well, Rodriguez had to do a lot of researchers. He found out that gay couples are just like heterosexual ones. The only difference is that there are two men in their relationship, the actor said.
But "the feelings of love and caring for the loved one are the same," he said.
He was so into his role that he even wants a kissing scene with Trillo. The only thing is, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) will not allow such a scene on national television.
