Tom Rodriguez Takes Pride On His Loveteam With Dennis PadillaFormer ABS-CBN actor Tom Rodriguez is overwhelmed by the public's response to his unusual team up with Dennis Trillo in GMA-7's "My Husband's Lover."
On the first week of the teleserye's run, it has already garnered a high enough rating. It was also a trending topic on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter. Rodriguez saw the comments made by the viewers on the Internet and said he was surprised by their reactions.
At first, he said tackling a gay relationship on national television can be quite daunting and challenging. Although he expects the teleserye to be controversial, he didn't think the people would warm up to the idea of his "loveteam" with Trillo.
During "Sunday All Stars," Trillo and Rodriguez had to perform together. The crowd went wild upon seeing them, proving that their teleserye might actually have a winning chance against ABS-CBN's top-rating "Apoy Sa Dagat."
"Siguro lang, ito lang ang masasabi ko na proud ako na kami ang first na ganitong klaseng loveteam."
His parents, who were based abroad, were able to watch the first week of "My Husband's Lover." The actor related that his family was very proud and supportive of him.
In "My Husband's Lover," Rodriguez plays the role of Vincent. He is married to Lally (Carla Abellana) while he has a gay relationship with Eric (Trillo), an architect.
At first, Vincent didn't realize he was bisexual. However, when he and Lally had their first child, he slowly realized that he is also attracted to the same sex.
Rodriguez revealed that Vincent is really in love with Eric, and not with Lally. However, both of them have to keep up their appearances as not to complicate matters.
During his workshops, Rodriguez said he focused on feeling in love with Eric's character and not the fact that he has to portray a gay role. He highlighted how important it is for him to really be in tune with how Vincent is supposed to feel.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez felt it was the right decision for him to leave behind ABS-CBN. He is a product of "Pinoy Big Brother."
When he left the Kapamilya network, he was a regular mainstay of the phenomenal "Be Careful With My Heart." He plays Jeff, Kute's (Aiza Seguerra) love interest.
"Ni wala akong kahit konting pagsisisi. Although, nami-miss ko ang mga katrabaho ko, I know that I did the right thing. I am really happy where I am right now."
"My Husband's Lover" is his first big break in showbiz.
Meanwhile, he shared that Seguerra is proud of his success with GMA. Almost all of the cast of "Be Careful With My Heart" called and congratulated him about the teleserye.
"It’s a nice feeling. I have their support din. It’s so humbling. Nami-miss ko na rin ang kulitan namin."
