Jessy Mendiola Finally Admits Two-Year Relationship With JM De GuzmanJessy Mendiola finally broke her silence regarding her failed relationship with actor JM de Guzman. She admitted to the press that she and de Guzman had a two-year relationship before. She never admitted to the relationship because her mother did not approve of the actor.
Mendiola said she didn't want to complicate things before since she was not okay with her mother, and that was why she refused to talk about their relationship.
De Guzman has always been very vocal about his feelings for Mendiola, but the actress continually denied the relationship. She said her mother didn't speak to her for the duration of her relationship with the actor.
If she told the public about their relationship and her mom's disapproval, it would have complicated the issue more, Mendiola said. She broke her silence during the press conference for her upcoming teleserye, the remake of Mexican telenovela "Maria Mercedes."
For the past years, she just accepted what the public was saying about her--that she just gave false hopes to the actor, who is now reportedly undergoing depression. De Guzman has stopped doing teleseryes and movies.
Mendiola said she hopes the actor can get back to his feet again because he is an amazing actor and a good person as well.
She then admitted that one of the factors why their relationship failed was because of her mother. It's hard that your mother doesn't support your relationship, Mendiola said.
She had to prioritize herself and focus on her career, she added. Mendiola also said she learned a lot from her relationship with de Guzman.
Mendiola defended herself against the critics and said she loved de Guzman as much as he loved her before.
She also talked about her "almost" relationship with "Paraiso" co-star Matteo Guidicelli. They weren't close when they started the teleserye, but rumors started swirling the two were going out. Mendiola was even the actor's guest in his family's resort in Cebu.
Mendiola admitted they went out a few times after "Paraiso," but they decided to focus on their careers first. She's happy for Guidicelli as well because he has been receiving a lot of projects lately.
"And kung pagsasabayin pa namin lahat, baka mabaliw na siya at baka mag-run, bike, at swim away siya from me!"
For now, Mendiola prefers to focus on her upcoming teleserye, which was her dream project. "Tingin ko, it’s a sign na, ‘Hey, you have to focus muna on your career, on your work.’"
She doesn't need a lovelife to feel complete now, the actress said, adding that it is more important to focus on her career because that's an opportunity that will only knock once.
