JM De Guzman’s Dad Says He Wants His Kid BackIn the midst of reports that JM de Guzman has checked into a rehabilitation center in Tagaytay City, the actor’s dad has come out to say that he wants his kid back.
Recently, de Guzman was supposed to star in the biopic “San Pedro Calungson: Batang Martir” but the actor was revealed to have backed out from the project.
Roniel de Guzman, the father of JM, was the one who informed the film’s director Francis Villacorta will not be able to perform in the title role of the film.
The director accepted de Guzman’s decision but said he feels sorry the actor could not do the job as he was considered by the director as the ideal actor for the project and the role.
The actor’s dad Ronniel said through Facebook on Thursday that Rocco Nacino has been tapped to replace JM and that JM’s brother Matthew will be playing a small role in the film.
The father also expressed his feelings over the whole issue in a report published by Yahoo Philippines on Thursday.
“May pinagdadaanan siya. May health problem siya. But he’s on his way to recovery... He's been on a sabbatical for two weeks now,” Ronniel said saying that his son needs to have a break to “heal his wounds.”
“I want my kid back. I want him to be much better, magkaroon ng responsibility. He has to fix himself, conquer his own demons. Sabi ko sa kanya, 'Dapat pagbalik mo sa showbiz, mas may tools ka na.'” Ronniel said saying that if the filming of the San Pedro Calungsod movie would have been shorter, he would have allowed his son to still be part of the project.
Nonetheless, the father is confident that JM will be back with a vengeance in the entertainment industry saying that his son is really passionate about acting.
“Pag-arte lang naman ang gusto niyang gawin. Kahit bigyan mo lang 'yan ng piso at ilang tao lang ang manonood, aarte siya,” the father said.
“Kahit anong mangyari kay JM, you can't take away his talent. Paano ka magiging tunay na artista kung hindi ka sensitive sa feelings mo?” he added.
De Guzman has made headlines lately because of rumors that he has problems with substance abuse. Furthermore, the name of actress Jessy Mendiola was dragged into the issue because it was speculated that her breakup with de Guzman was what pushed the young actor to let loose.
Some people were even saying hurting words to Mendiola which may be what prompted the actress to come out recently to speak about the matter.
“Tinanggap ko na lang ang sinasabi ng tao na, 'Ah, pinaasa mo lang siya, sinira mo ang career niya, 'yung trabaho niya.' Gusto ko lang malaman ng ibang tao na nagmahal din po ako at masasabi ko din po na inalagaan ko din siya,” Mendiola recently said.
“So ngayon po kung ano ang nangyayari sa kanya I really hope all the best for him kasi napakagaling niya ang aktor at napakabait na tao,” she added.
“San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir” is an entry to the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival and is a film about the life of the second Filipino saint. The film is currently in production.
