Julia Barretto Feels Excitement About Aunt Claudine’s Showbiz ComebackJulia Barretto expressed her excitement about the reported showbiz comeback of her aunt, controversial actress Claudine Barretto. The young actress said she has always been a fan of Claudine, who is undoubtedly among the finest dramatic actresses in her generation.
For several months now, there is a long-standing feud among the Barrettos. In April this year, Gretchen and Marjorie (Julia’s mom) attacked their younger sister on the social media for allegedly threatening to block Julia’s entry into ABS-CBN. Earlier this year, Julia was introduced by the network as among the new talents of its talent management arm Star Magic.
The social networking rift was blown out of proportion when the Barretto matriarch, Inday Barretto, came out to defend Claudine against Gretchen and Marjorie. In just a few days, other members of the Barretto family came out to take sides. Joaquin ‘Jay-Jay’ sided with Gretchen while Gia took Inday’s side. Claudine has decided to keep mum about her involvement in the family issue.
Julia is one of the nieces that used to be close to Claudine. In her past interviews, Julia recalled some of her fun times with her favorite aunt. She reminisced how she and her siblings used to go out with their aunt to watch movies, eat out, watch concerts, and do the grocery. Julia has always been consistent that she still looks up to Claudine these days despite the ongoing family feud. She even refused to take sides on the family rift.
Last week, Claudine surfaced in the news after she invited several reporters to the birthday celebration of her daughter Sabina. She directly admitted her separation from husband Raymart Santiago. The highlight of her brief interviews was her announcement about her upcoming return to showbiz via two new movies to be produced by Viva Films and Star Cinema. Those are set to be filmed this year.
Claudine was an exclusive contract star of Star Magic from the start of her career until 2009, when she decided to move to GMA-7. In 2011, GMA-7 decided not to renew her network contract due to several pressing reasons. She has remained in hiatus since then until she figured in several scandals that rocked the show business (including the very controversial NAIA Terminal 3 incident involving columnist Mon Tulfo).
Latest on Julia
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN recently announced that Julia’s planned launching project ‘Cofradia’ would be cancelled. The network said it was influenced by reactions from netizens especially about the theme of the story, which is about the perceived ugliness of people with dark complexions. As a replacement, she would do a ‘fantaserye’ to be called ‘Mirabella.’
‘Mirabella’ is about a teenager who has to overcome a curse. It would pair Julia with fellow newcomers Kiko Estrada and Diego Loyzaga. The cast also includes Gloria Diaz, John Lapus, Mylene Dizon, and Pokwang. The airing schedule of the TV series is yet to be announced by the network, although it already held a story conference for it.
