Dad Says Jm De Guzman To Be Released From Rehab Next MonthJM de Guzman is scheduled to be released from the rehabilitation center in Tagaytay City early next month (August). He is currently staying in the rehab center to recover from substance abuse. This was the revelation from his dad, Roniel de Guzman who is one of the directors of National Press Club (NPC).
In a short and casual interview with fellow press people, Mr. de Guzman disclosed that his son JM is doing well where he is right now. He further added that JM can now carry simple conversations, giving the press the impression that he reached the point wherein he could not converse well with people.
However, Mr. de Guzman admitted that he and his family are more protective of JM now. As much as possible, the family would prefer if JM would not get in touch with his former friends, even temporarily. This suggests that the family fears that JM might go back to his vices if he would re-establish connections with his ‘bad influence’ friends.
Asking for prayers
Right now, Mr. de Guzman is asking for understanding and prayers for JM. He is more than hopeful that his son would soon recover from whatever it is he is currently undergoing. At the end of the interview, Mr. de Guzman assured that JM would resume accepting projects from his mother studio ABS-CBN the moment he emerges from the rehab.
Many observers are disappointed over what happened to JM, who is considered as among the fine actors of his generation. He was doing the Book 2 of his afternoon soap in the network, ‘Angelito: Batang Ama’ when he started showing manifestations of substance abuse. The show had to be cut short to spare the production from the headaches and stress JM had caused because of his unprofessionalism.
JM was admitted at the rehabilitation center last June. That time, Mr. de Guzman initially denied speculations that JM was on the way to rehab. He simply said his son would take a much needed vacation in Australia where one of his sisters currently lives.
However, Mr. de Guzman had to take back his words after a few days. In an interview with showbiz columnist Ricky Lo, he finally admitted that JM is dealing with drug problems and that the family had already decided to put him into a rehabilitation center, which he refused to identify.
That time, Mr. de Guzman denied reports that JM turned into a beggar, asking for transportation money from people on the streets. ABS-CBN and Star Magic refused to release any statement regarding JM’s absence.
There were speculations that JM turned to drugs when he failed to deal with depression caused by his breakup with ex-girlfriend Jessy Mendiola. According to reports, Mendiola ditched him for Matteo Guidicelli. The two also broke up several weeks ago due to undisclosed reasons. In an interview, Mendiola said she loved JM so much that she gave him ‘her all’ during the span of their relationship.
