Vilma Santos Denies Jennylyn Mercado Is PregnantIt was Star For All Seasons Vilma Santos herself who cleared rumors that Jennylyn Mercado, the girlfriend of her son Luis Manzano, is pregnant. She said she will be the first one to know if ever that's true.
The award-winning veteran actress said her son won't keep anything like that from her since they maintained a close relationship. She is now prepared to be a grandmother as she has been waiting for Manzano to settle down.
But still, Santos said it is up to her son to decide for himself if he really wants to give her a grandchild. For now, she is just waiting for Manzano to be ready to settle down with a family of his own.
Santos was recently awarded as best actress in the Cinemalaya festival. It was her first time to be in a role of an extra or bit player. She said it was really a refreshing experience to know what the bit players have to go through during filming a scene for a movie.
It only took the Star for all Seasons a week or two to finalize the deal with "Ekstra's" producers since she was really interested in the script. She clarified that the talent fee was never an issue between her and the producers. When the producers told her the budget is really small, she told them she just wants her first indie film to be really special.
What's important for the actress is how to make the film more interesting and beautiful, she said.
Santos wasn't able to attend the Cinemalaya festival, so she didn't personally accept the best actress award given to her. This is something she regrets, the actress said. The culprit for her no-show in the awards night was a miscommunication. Since the event was held on a weekend, she gave the days off for her employees. Naturally, when she was invited, nobody would be left to take care of her affairs. Even her husband, Senator Ralph Recto, and her son, Ryan Christian, were out to go golfing.
The actress then took the time to thank the Cinemalaya for giving her the award, adding that it was a wonderful experience for her to do an indie film.
For now, Santos is not yet thinking about the next possible indie film for her. She was just really interested with "Ekstra" and that was why she readily accepted it.
But unless there's a new script or plot that can really interest her, she can't really say for sure if she can make another indie movie. Santos said it's all about the timing.
"Ang sa akin lang, in my own little way, I need to support ang grupong ito na sinasabi nilang nahihirapan kung meron pa akong puwedeng i-contribute. Maybe someday I will produce indie movies, may limited budget naman, di ba?"
Meanwhile, Santos also reacted to the "Vilma Santos for President Movement." The group wants the Star for all Seasons to be pitted against Vice President Jejomar Binay in the 2016 presidential elections.
The veteran actress laughed and joked that the people pushing for that movement want her to grow old immediately. She said the presidency is not an easy job and she never dreamt of becoming one.
Being a mayor and governor of Batangas is both a destiny and a privilege, Santos said. Whatever will be, will be, she added.
The actress clarified she has no plans of running for president, and she will simply let destiny decide that for her.
