Megan Young Crowned As 2013 Miss World PhilippinesActress-TV host Megan Young bested 24 beauty contestants when she grabbed the crown of Miss World Philippines for this year. As expected, she easily eclipsed all other contestants during the pageant night, which was held yesterday (August 18). She was a crowd favorite.
As the crown holder, Megan will be the one who will represent the country in the Miss World 2013 pageant, which would be held on September 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia. That gives the 23-year-old actress turned beauty queen just more than a month to prepare for another competition.
Janicel Lubina was named as the pageant’s 1st princess, while Zahra Bianca Saldua was the declared as the 2nd pricess. Paula Bianca Paz was the third princess and Omarie Linn Osuna was the 4th princess.
Aiming for the crown
In a television interview before the pageant night, Megan stated her goal to take the crown. She also said she intends to grab the international crown this year to make the country proud.
Miss World 2013 Megan Young is now the third title holder of the pageant since the franchise broke away from Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc, which in turn holds the local rights to the Miss Universe yearly pageant. Miss World Philippines is organized and headed by Cory Quirino.
This year’s Miss World pageant marked the return of the beauty contest to GMA-7, which aired its first pageant in 2011. In 2012, Miss World Philippines was aired over TV5. It is still not clear what went wrong with the Miss World Philippines-TV5 deal because the pageant was supposed to air for several years in the network when it inked a contract.
Meanwhile, Megan will follow the footsteps of former Miss World Philippines winners Gwendolyn Ruais and Queenierich Rehman. Gwendolyn almost brought home the Miss World crown in 2011 when she was named as the first princess that year. Queenierich was among the top 15 contenders last year.
Megan Young was discovered by GMA-7 when she joined ‘Starstruck’ batch 2, which was won by Ryza Cenon and Mike Tan. She stayed with the Kapuso network for some time until she decided to join Star Magic and ABS-CBN years ago.
One of her most distinct projects in ABS-CBN was as a bipolar sister to the character of Ruffa Gutierrez in the local adaptation of ‘Betty La Fea.’ Ruffa was once a first princess in the Miss World competition. Megan is usually seen doing hosting chores in the network.
Meanwhile, Megan is currently playing the villain role in the TV5 primetime series ‘Misibis Bay.’ She is still regularly seen in the show, which is about to end this month.
Among the supporters who came to the pageant venue of Miss World Philippines was Lauren Young, Megan’s younger sister. Lauren is now a Kapuso actress, playing one of the lead roles in the top rating primetime TV series ‘Mundo Mo’y Akin.’ She used to be in ABS-CBN, where she played the lead role in the remake of ‘Mula Sa Puso’ in 2012, opposite JM de Guzman.
