Megan Young Wins Miss World Philippines 2013 CrownMegan Young was crowned Miss Philippines 2013 during the coronation night that was held at the Solaire Resort and Casino on August 18 (Sunday).
Aside from the actual crown, she was also named the Best in Fashion Runway, Miss Sports by Fila, Miss Reducin, Miss Olay, Miss Laguna World, Miss Bold and Glamorous by Revlon, Miss Figlia and Miss Bench Body.
The TV host-actress will be representing the Philippines for the Miss World 2013 that will be held in Indonesia.
Young said she feels very happy upon hearing her name called by the emcee. Right now, she's focused on preparing for next month's pageant. The TV host-actress said she prepared hard for the crown.
"Hindi ako makapaniwala 'coz I've been dreaming about this since I was thirteen years old and here I am now. Naiiyak talaga ako kasi I know how I worked hard for this."
Back when she was still in high school, she wasn't confident that she would someday win in the pageant. But this victory is sweet for her since this time, it's her decision to join the contest. There were a lot of people who tried to convince her before to join a beauty pageant.
"Also, my idea before, I just have to work hard and show them what I have and I'm just happy that I've gone this far."
She offered her victory to her family who was with her during the whole process. They were also in attendance during the coronation night. Her younger sister, Lauren Young, was there with her rumored boyfriend, Mikael Daez.
Many noticed that Young was very confident when she was on stage, even when she was answering the question posted by a judge. She said all the contestants deserved to be there with her, and her focus right now is just to enjoy the moment and prepare for the future.
Her showbiz career would be temporarily on hold for now since her focus is winning the pageant next month. She said that after representing the country in Indonesia, she will surely be back in showbiz because that is her bread-and-butter.
Young noted she is sacrificing a lot for her dreams, but maintained that she will be back as soon as possible. She will even be sacrificing her time for rumored beau Daez.
She described the pageant as a "major step" in her life.
For now, the cash prize of P1 million hasn't sunk in just yet. She added that she and the girls planned to order pizza and go on swimming before they check out of the hotel. Young said they all deserve to treat themselves because of all the dieting they did before.
Young knows it's going to be hard preparing for the pageant next month because there's only a few weeks left before it commences.
"There are a lot of pretty girls out there so, for me, there goes the real pressure. Lalo everyone's telling me na matagal nang walang nananalong Miss World [from the Philippines], so I can't imagine the responsibility I have right now."
The Philippines hasn't won in the Miss World pageant. The country only placed first runner up--Evangeline Pascual in 1973 and Gwendolyn Ruais in 2011.
"It's another milestone in my life and it's one way for me to grow as a person. There's something deep in myself that I want to give to people and be able to reach out—and it's one way to do it."
