Lauren Young Expresses Pride For Sister Megan's Miss World Philippines CrownLauren Young fully supported her sister Megan during the Miss World Philippines 2013 coronation night on August 18 (Sunday) at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino.
She said she was very happy for her sister for achieving her goals in the competition. She related this has always been her sister's dream--to represent the country in the Miss World competition, which will be conducted in Indonesia next month. For Lauren, Megan deserved to win because she saw how hard her sister worked for the crown. She added that being an actress is not a guarantee that one will win in any contest he/she joined.
She proudly shared how she saw Megan walked with confidence and answered questions smartly. Lauren said she was very nervous when the contest was still going on. She held on to her friends arms and hands every time Megan would take the stage. She would also cheer, "Ang ganda-ganda ng ate ko!"
The whole Young family is very supportive of Megan, the Kapuso actress said. Every time she would get discouraged, Lauren would always remind her that nothing in this life is easy. "Kaya yung pagod and puyat niya, I know it will pay off and it did now."
The family will attend the Miss World pageant in Indonesia next month, so they're now planning to book tickets and hotel rooms for them and their friends. They are 100 percent behind Megan, Lauren said.
Even if her sister didn't win, Lauren said she is still the Miss World for her. "I adore my sister so much. She's one of the persons I look up to 'coz she's very, very smart. She has a beautiful heart and siya yung tipo ng tao na uunahin muna niya kaming lahat and all her friends before herself."
Megan earlier said she had to sacrifice her career and her lovelife for her dream to represent the Philippines in the Miss World pageant. Lauren related she was continually inspired by her big sister because she saw how hard she worked for her career and yet she's willing to give it up temporarily for a chance to represent the country.
The sacrifices are not even for Megan's personal gain, Lauren said. In fact, her sister didn't need to join a contest to prove herself anymore because she's already quite successful in hosting shows. And yet, she decided to put her career on hold for this dream.
"It's because also she's a proud Filipino and she wants to bring home the crown from an international contest kung papalarin siya."
When it comes to criticisms, Lauren said their family already expected that even if Megan wins or doesn't. People will always have something to say, she added. However, Megan showed the country that she is ready to win that crown.
On joining beauty pageants
Lauren said it's not her thing to join beauty contests. She doesn't think working out is something that she can do every day. She saw that maybe it's harder than taping for a soap. "I don't think I'm cut out for it and I'm scared. Meron akong feeling na kapag I don't win, iba ang mararamdaman ko. And I don't want to put myself in that position."
Even if other people will persuade her to join the contest, Lauren said she will just follow her sister's footsteps. Megan joined the competition when she was ready for it, and not when people were pushing her to join. Lauren shared she cannot take on that kind of pressure.
In the end, Lauren thanked the people who supported her sister. She said their prayers helped a lot in boosting Megan's confidence. "Kaming buong family, we know na my ate owes so much from you and hindi niya 'yan makakalimutan for the rest of her life."
She wished people would continue to pray for Megan as she makes a bid for the Miss World crown in Indonesia on September 28.
