Janine Gutierrez Set To Star In Remake Of ‘Villa Quintana’After remaking ‘Anna Karenina,’ GMA-7 is set to do another remake of one of its top-rating shows in the past. It would be the turn of primetime soap ‘Villa Quintana.’ Sources claim that the network thinks that remaking some of its past soaps is the effective formula for TV shows these days, as proven by the success of its past remakes.
There are reports that GMA-7 is eyeing Janine Gutierrez to star in the TV series. Janine could be considered as a showbiz royalty. She is the daughter of Lotlot de Leon and Ramon Christopher, who themselves came from showbiz families.
If the show would push through, it would be Janine’s biggest break as a Kapuso star. That would also launch her to possible stardom. She has been visible in several GMA-7 shows in the past but she is yet to star in her own TV show.
Replaced in ‘Pyra’
Janine was reportedly supposed to star in the new Afternoon Prime show ‘Pyra,’ which now stars newcomer Thea Tolentino. But according to reports, she was replaced on the last minute for unknown reasons. Now, it is clear that the network could be planning bigger things for her.
Asked about being a replacement, Thea simply said that she had no idea that she was the second choice for the role. Thea is the female winner of the network’s talent reality show ‘Protégé.’ She is paired with her counterpart, male winner Jeric Gonzales.
Some of Janine’s fans have reacted to the news that she was replaced in ‘Pyra.’ Now, they would be pleased to hear that their idol could be tapped as the lead actress for ‘Villa Quintana.’ It is not clear if the TV series would be made for ‘Telebabad’ or ‘Afternoon Prime.’
It could be recalled that ‘Villa Quintana’ was a top rater during its time. It was aired in 1995 and was a co-production between GMA-7 and Viva TV. The show starred Donna Cruz, which was launched to stardom through the series. She played the role of Lynette, a heiress to a wealthy family.
Opposite Lynette is Isagani, who was played originally by Keempee de Leon. ‘Villa Quintana’ was the sole winner on its time slot because it was the first soap to take that time slot: 6:30 p.m. after its newscast. However, it lost steam when RPN-9 aired ‘Marimar’ in the same time slot. Eventually, ABS-CBN moved the timeslot of ‘Mara Clara’ to compete with the two shows.
GMA-7 is yet to make announcements about the other stars who might be included in the cast of the new ‘Villa Quintana.’ There is also no confirmation yet that Janine would play the lead role.
Right now, Janine is part of the Sunday afternoon show ‘Sunday All Stars,’ where she is one of the anchors. She also occasionally appears in several shows in the network
