Gretchen Barretto Says She Was Verbally And Emotionally Abused By Her Mother IndayGretchen Barretto has been emotionally and verbally abused by her mother Inday Barretto for the better part of 43 years. She has been silent all these years about the things that she has to go through with her mother, but the truth is finally out, she said.
Gretchen didn't want to comment on the statements made by Inday earlier that she was "malicious" and "evil." She has been used to it already, the actress maintained. Inday called her such when Gretchen sided with Raymart Santiago in the shared custody battle with Claudine Barretto.
Inday and Miguel Barretto were with Claudine when she filed a case against Raymart for abusing her since 2002, the year of their marriage.
Even Miguel, who is usually quiet in the rivalry between his daughters, was vocal in criticizing Gretchen. He said there are some "bad apples" in his seven children.
After this, Gretchen posted a message on her Instagram account: "Knowing when to walk away, is wisdom. Being able to, is courage. Walking away with your head held high is dignity."
She added as a caption: "Oh so perfect. self preservation. Loving and respect yourself."
To which, some of her Instagram followers commented, saying how bad it is that her own family is disowning her and spreading malicious lies about her. One follower in particular said her parents didn't even think who raised Gretchen and why she supposedly turned that way.
Gretchen answered this follower, saying: "I can thank God for his mercy never fails. The truth is finally unfolding. I have suffered in silence for 43 years of my life. It has been the most difficult and painful journey. Although the verbal and emotional abuse continue, I pray that I am given the grace to walk away from it all."
She posted another message shortly after this. Gretchen quoted: "Some people can be mean and treat you poorly. Don’t take it personally. It says nothing about you but a lot about them."
Gretchen, Claudine and Marjorie had a falling out months ago because Marjorie and Gretchen accused their youngest sister of trying to ruin Julia Barretto's blooming career. They also alleged that Claudine is suffering from mental illness and that their parents refused to put her in an institution.
Inday and Miguel sided with Claudine and even disowned Gretchen.
