Some Kapuso stars were alarmed because of what they discovered. Fake made accounts in social media using their names and photos are rampant nowadays. The accounts ask donation and personal information. Maine Mendoza and Marian Rivera are some of the victim of the said issue.
The social media Posts of the fake accounts
An impostor made an account named “Marian Rivera’ in Facebook account. The account garnered more than 70,000 likes. It looks legit in a first look. The fake account announced that 5,000 will be given to all Kapuso fans but should make message in private.
However, a fake “Maine Mendoza” Facebook account has also been claiming that GMA and “Eat Bulaga” are giving away P5,000 to P50,000 cash prizes but the account asks for personal information.
The manager of Maine and Marian clarified in his statement saying “Sa panahon ng krisis, nakuha mo pang gumamit ng pangalan at mukha. God bless us all.”
DICT and pnp give warning
The Department of Information and Communications Technology recently warned Filipinos. Let’s be mindful of their safety online, as the COVID-19 lockdown requires them to stay at home for at least a month.
Moreover, the Philippine National Police reminded the public to be very vigilant and watchful. Be careful of giving your personal information on social media.
Review and verify the accounts you follow to avoid falling for online scam traps.
