Megan Young Clinches Top Model Award In Miss World 2013Miss World Philippines 2013 Megan Young has won the coveted Top Model Award, one of the events in the Miss World 2013 pageant that will be held in Bali, Indonesia this September 28 (Saturday).
Megan won the award despite the various criticisms being thrown at her, and amid the unveiling of the plot to destroy her chances of winning the crown.
According to a reliable fashion website, the announcement was made during the morning's rehearsals for the pageant. Megan bested nine other contestants from Brazil, France, Ukraine, South Sudan, Cameroon, Cyprus, England, Italy and the United States.
Megan, who many considered an early favorite, also won the fifth place in the Beach Fashion challenge, which was won by Miss Brazil. She also clinched the fourth place in the Social Media competition while Miss India won the top spot. This is the second year that India won the said award.
Aside from the two events, Megan was also in the top 10 of the Beauty With A Purpose competition. This was won by Miss Nepal.
Winners of the various events are (from first to last place):
- For Top Model: Philippines, United States, France, Ukraine and Brazil.
- For Beach Fashion: Brazil, France, Ghana, Jamaica and the Philippines.
- For Sports: Netherlands, Spain, Northern Ireland, Paraguay and El Salvador.
- For Multimedia: India, Thailand, Nepal, the Philippines and Malaysia.
- For Beauty With A Purpose: Nepal, Australia, Tanzania, Belgium, Brazil, France, Ghana, England, India and Aruba.
Meanwhile, a plot to destroy Megan's chances of winning the crown was also uncovered by former beauty queen and Miss World Philippines director Cory Quirino. She said there is a group in the country which has been working hard to destroy the actress-model's chances of being named the first Filipina to win the crown.
Quirino said that the mood in Bali around Megan "is positive and promising," but the group is still continually sending emails to the organizers in the hopes that Megan will be disqualified from the pageant. The organizers have already asked the group to stop sending them messages, but they were relentless.
"My request to all our countrymen is to consider the honor the Miss World Crown will bring to the country. Lets join hands now to prove that the Bayanihan spirit is strong, alive and above all, genuine."
The group may have been using Megan's Rogue 2012 cover photo wherein the beauty queen was lying on the sand with her back and the side of her boobs exposed. Netizens have been coming to Megan's defense, however, saying that Rogue was a lifestyle magazine rather than a men's magazine.
The Miss World organization prohibits their contestants from appearing in public or in the media in such provocative manner. Megan already opened this cover shoot to the organizers before she joined the pageant, and they still accepted her as the country's representative.
The complaint was sent to a UK-based fashion and lifestyle blog. It was published, along with the photos, on the website's main page. The letter-sender requested anonymity though.
