Ariella Arida Bravely Answers Questions About Her WeaknessesMiss Universe Philippines 2013 Ariella Arida is aware of her weaknesses when it comes to her communication skills. Netizens have noticed that Arida is not too comfortable with speaking the English language.
She guested in Karen Davila's "Headstart" on ANC the same day she was supposed to leave for Moscow, Russia. Here, Ara (as she was fondly called by those close to her) answered questions from the netizens.
Before Karen asked Ara the "controversial question," she first asked the beauty queen if she is okay to hear something negative about her. The host doesn't want Ara to feel bad before she leaves for the pageant.
However, Ara assured Karen that she is ready to hear criticisms from the netizens.
One Twitter follower noticed how the beauty queen is not comfortable speaking English. To this, Ara said that she is aware of that problem but she assured her trainers that she will do her best in the competition despite that weakness.
The Miss Universe Philippines furthered that it is not in speaking English that one can judge how fitting a candidate is for the crown. Instead, "how you are as a person" will be the determinant of your winning the crown, Ara said.
"When you get there, it's (on) how your express yourself. Latinas can't even complete a sentence... in English. I think it's (just) the Filipino(s) who are critical."
She added that many of the candidates in the beauty pageant always have translators. And although Ara doesn't plan to have a translator, she promised Filipinos that she will deliver--a daunting feat considering the last three years saw the placement of Miss Universe Philippines Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon in the pageant's runners up.
As for other issues, Ara admitted she is against transgenders joining the Miss Universe pageant because they already have their own beauty pageant.
She also shared some things about her national costume and evening gown. A Thai magazine said Ara will wear a floor-length gold sheer evening gown. Although she has seen it, Ara said it is Madam Stella Araneta who has the final say.
The beauty queen considers Miss Spain Patricia Rodriguez, Miss Puerto Rico Monic Perez and Miss France Hinarani de Longeaux as her toughest competitors in the pageant.
Ara left for Russia in the afternoon of October 21. She is a native of Alaminos, Laguna. In Moscow, she is set to battle against 85 other delegates in the world's most prestigious and talked-about beauty pageant.
The coronation night will be on November 9. It will air on ABS-CBN. The date and time are still unconfirmed though.
In the end, Ara asked her fellow Filipinos to help in the online votes. Miss Universe will choose the Top 15 and another finalist who would win in the online votes. Netizens can visit www.missuniverse.com for more information on how to vote for Ara.
