Megan Young Calls On Pinoys To Unite: ‘No Typhoon Can Bring Filipinos To Their Knees If We’ll Be United.’In the wake of the devastating super typhoon Yolanda, Megan Young is calling on Filipinos to unite.
The reigning Miss World sent out her message to her kababayans through her official Twitter account @meganbata saying: “No typhoon can bring Filipinos to their knees if we’ll be united.”
She added: “Please hold on tight my dear Philippines… #unity”
Young revealed that her mom’s hometown of Antique was also hit by Yolanda (Haiyan). She said that she is “praying for everyone that was struck” by the storm.
The beauty queen also did not pass up the chance to thank all countries who extended a helping hand as she said “Thank you so much…for helping us get through this.”
Young also asked the help of her followers on Twitter and Instagram for a fundraising event organized by her sister Lauren Young and fellow celebrity and friend Saab Magalona. The celebrities are coming up with the event Ukay Alalay which will be held during the Bazaar Love Triangle in Kapitolyo, Pasig this 16th.
“Ukay Alalay (@lo_young @saabmagalona) will be at this event selling old clothes/shoes. Some of my stuff will be sold as well. 100% of the funds raised will be going to the victims of #YolandaPH,” Young said.
After The Haiti Mishap
Meanwhile, Young, in an interview published by the Miss World site, said that she is feeling better.
The beauty queen figured in a major mishap in Haiti recently, as she and kids in an orphanage in Port-au-Prince fell through from the second floor of a building after the floor gave way.
“I’m a bit better, I’m not as shaken as I was a couple of days ago,” she said in the interview published before Yolanda tore through central Philippines.
She said that this accident opened her eyes and will not deter her from embodying the Miss World mantra of beauty with a purpose.
“It’s something that people can look at and can see what’s going on and think about what they can do to help,” she said.
Young also said that she will hopefully be home in the Philippines for Christmas to spend time with her family. She also bared plans to visit the Philippine General Hospital and Tuloy Foundation.
