Geoff Eigenmann Poses For Men's Health Magazine After Losing WeightMonths after being absent from television and movies because of receiving the "fat memo" from the management of GMA-7, actor Geoff Eigenmann is back on track with a new show for the Kapuso network and a cover for Men's Health magazine January 2014 issue.
Geoff started losing weight after the network advised him to do so. He found a mentor in Erwin Tagle, the owner of Ultimate Fitness Gym in Metrowalk, Pasig.
When he started focusing on his weight, Geoff didn't intend to lose weight but to just go to the gym and start working out. His interest was piqued by such activities as mixed martial arts, jiu jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing and other contact sports.
On the first day of his workout in the gym, a fitness instructor approached him and told him he looked like "Geoff Eigenmann." That's when the actor realized he does not look like his old self anymore.
"At first it was hell, and then I decided to start enjoying what I was doing here, enjoying the workout."
Boxing has always been a part of Geoff's activities even in high school. So when he started doing this in the gym, it was easier for him to focus on conditioning too.
When he got used to working out, Geoff started joining the fighters when they had wresting classes and other contact activities. Almost all of the activities he is doing are full body workouts.
Jiu jitsu, for example, does not require too much exercise since the fighters just roll around on the floor. However, the actor said it is still considered a full body workout.
These workouts are also essential training for future roles like his character in the GMA-7 teleserye "Adarna." The first option for his role there was to be a basketball player but because the producers knew he's doing MMA, they shifted to that instead.
"So, ganun siya. So, it’s usable, especially, pag kunwari action show, action movies. I can do more stuff na 'cause I know I’m healthier. I know I’m capable of doing things physically and mentally."
In the future, Geoff wanted to be part of MMA even as an amateur only. To do that, he has to be 155 pounds the most.
Geoff then talked about the fat memo that he got from GMA-7. He said he was expecting that memo already so when it arrived, it wasn't really surprising for him.
He wasn't even devastated by it, the actor added. He also said the note just pushed him to do something about his weight, which he started noticing already.
Asked for the reason as to why he gained so much weight, Geoff said it's probably because he lacked the time to really stay fit and focus on his health. In about two years, the actor gained 30 pounds.
Because of the number of shows he was doing back then, he has no time to go to the gym and commit himself to getting fit. "So, I needed time. That’s basically the number one thing. Plus, lagi akong puyat sa taping."
Now that he has started losing weight, Geoff said he just focuses on avoiding fastfood, sodas and juices. He also avoids foods with sugar and eats more times a day to keep the metabolism going.
As for his girlfriend Carla Abellana, Geoff said she never complained about his weight or even his beard. In fact, he said she was one of the driving forces behind his road to fitness.
He also said he's happy for Carla's success in "My Husband's Lover," wherein she played the role of Lally, the wife of a closet homosexual.
