Vilma Santos-Recto Is The Best Actress At The Dhaka International Film FestivalBatangas Governor and Star For All Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto was named as the Best Actress at the Dhaka International Film Festival for her role in the indie film "Ekstra."
Armenian-born Iranian actor Levan Hafevan, on the other hand, was named as the Best Actor for "Parviz." The theme of the festival was "Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society."
It was established in 1992 to introduce mainstream global cinema to local Bangladeshi filmmakers, and also to promote Bangladesh's films.
The award ceremony was held on January 18 (Saturday) at the National Museum Auditorium.
"Ekstra" was also nominated under the Australasian Film Section of the festival, but none of the 22 entries won because the judges weren't able to pick anything. The film was Vilma’s first independent movie.
Here are the winners of the said festival: Parviz Shahbazi, Best Director, "Trapped" or Iran; Best Screenplay, "Miss Zombie" of Japan; Best Cinematography, "Satellite Boy" of Australia; Best Children Film Badal Rahman Award, "The Rooster Trademark Paper"; Audience Award, "Plastic" of Iran; and Special Audience Mention Awards, Siri Perakum of Sri Lanka and Chokhaunee of Nepal.
