John Lloyd Cruz Plays A Developmentally Delayed Person In New MovieABS-CBN's prized actor John Lloyd Cruz will play a developmentally delayed person in a new movie that will be directed by Chito Rono for Star Cinema.
Although the term most commonly used for this type of mental illness is "mentally retarded," Lloydie said the politically correct term was "developmentally delayed or DD."
The actor said this is different from Gerald Anderson's character in the teleserye "Budoy" because one would not notice immediately a person who is developmentally delayed. Not unless that someone would engage in a conversation with a person with DD would he/she know that the person is mentally retarded.
Lloydie has already begun researching about this mental illness so that he can enrich his character more. He is hoping that once the camera starts rolling, he can learn more from his director and writer regarding the character.
Lloydie will star alongside Richard Gomez, Jessy Mendiola and Gretchen Barretto in this movie. He is not sure yet if Enrique Gil will be a part of the project.
Since they have just started filming, Lloydie said he cannot give more details about the movie because he's only starting to learn about it. Also, he doesn't want to disappoint the fans if ever something goes wrong with the project and it has to be scrapped.
All he knows is who the final cast would be and the director. But still, Lloydie is hesitant to give more information because even the cast can still change.
"Nahihiya rin kami sa fans na umaasa, na parang, ‘O, akala ko ba sinabi mo na may project ka with this actor, this actress?’ Tapos, hindi nangyayari."
Back in 2013, there were rumors that Lloydie will be making a movie with Anne Curtis and Piolo Pascual. The actor said he's not sure if this project will still push through because his focus right now is his sitcom "Home Sweetie Home" with Toni Gonzaga, and the movie with Richard.
He explained that most artists are willing to wait for the right project, adding that they are not the only ones who make decisions whether a project is ripe for the picking or not.
There are writers, creators and directors to consider, Lloydie added. "So, unfortunately, hindi lang kami ang may say kung dapat maghintay ang projects na ‘yan."
Anne and Lloydie were involved in a nasty controversy in November last year wherein the actress called the actor an “addict” and slapped him in front of many people in an exclusive bar in Taguig City. Both parties did not divulge the reasons for the incident, only saying they have already apologized and moved on from the issue.
