Kathryn Bernardo And Daniel Padilla Are Being Tapped For "She's Dating A Gangster" MovieStar Cinema and Summit Media inked a deal today that will allow the ABS-CBN movie production arm to turn into a film one of the publishing house's most successful stories, "She's Dating A Gangster."
Written by Bianca Bernardino, it tells the story of the underdog Athena Dizon and campus bad boy Kenji de los Reyes. They pretended to be girlfriend and boyfriend only to actually fall in love in the end. Bianca said there's a twist in the end of the story, but that should remain a surprise.
Teen royalties Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla were tapped to play the role of Athena and Kenji. It will be directed by box-office director Cathy Garcia-Molina.
When Bianca wrote the book in 2006, the most perfect pair would have been Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. But in contemporary times, she said the KathNiel love team will definitely bring a spark to the story.
She cannot believe that her online fiction was turned into a book and now into a movie. She has such a high respect for Star Cinema, and she is confident they will do well in producing the movie version of "She's Dating The Gangster."
Bianca also said Star Cinema is the most respected movie production house in the country, and they also have top-caliber stars.
When it comes to inputs, Bianca said she will only suggest and point to the important quotes and storylines of the movie. But in the end, it is still up to Star Cinema how they will turn it into a success.
Bianca shared she wasn't a fan of KathNiel before ABS-CBN's "Got To Believe" was shown. However, she ultimately appreciated the charm of the loveteam.
In the Philippines alone, the book has sold more than 50,000 copies. Bianca reported that they have printed another 20,000 copies, and might have to print more because of the attention that will be given to it by the movie version.
There are no details yet of when filming will start, or whether Kathryn and Daniel have already signed an agreement to do the film.
