Randy Santiago Directs First Full-Length FilmRandy Santiago is very grateful to Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista for giving him the chance to direct Rakateros.
Although he was exposed to the film industry at an early age, this will be Santiago’s first full-length directorial debut. Rakateros will star Bautista, Ogie Alcasid, Andrew E and Dennis Padilla.
Bautista earlier said that Santiago is the right guy to direct the film because “he has the eye.” Santiago was very pleased by what the mayor said.
He told PEP.PH that he is very close to Bautista because they knew each other since they were little. Santiago’s father, Pablo, directed Bautista in his older films.
Santiago said that he worked as an assistant director for his father for seven years, and that is where he learned the ins and outs of the job. The last film that he assisted was Ninja Kids in 1986. Coincidentally, Bautista was also part of the film.
Santiago said aside from being an assistant director, he also studied filmmaking at the De La Salle University. Also, he is an avid fan of movies, so he incorporates his ideas into the concepts he usually sees in films.
When asked about his new film’s concept, Santiago was quick to admit that it was Bautista who thought of it. He recalled that Bautista called him when he was in the United States and told him to come home because they will be making a movie.
The idea came from Bautista and Padilla.
Santiago told PEP.PH that the whole showbiz industry is happy that the mayor is back producing films. He said that unlike other producers, Bautista invests on former superstars of the 80s. Other producers, he said, only like to get actors and actresses who are usually seen on television.
He added that Bautista gives others a chance to be part of the industry again.
However, he clarified that singing is still his priority. He said that when he has a project, he would fix his schedule, so he can accommodate all his responsibilities.
But as for now, Santiago said that his priority is directing Rakateros.
