Tado Dies In Mt Province Bus Accident

Iconic comedian Tado was among the 15 people who died on Friday after a tourist bus fell off a ravine in Bontoc, Mountain Province. He was 39.

Tado, whose real name is Arvin Jimenez, was aboard the Florida Transport bus with plate number TXT 872 which was travelling from the company’s Sampaloc terminal when it fell off a ravine over 100 meters deep in Sitio Pag-Ang, Barangay Talubin in Bontoc at about 7:20 a.m.

Among at least 45 people on board the bus when the incident happened are a Dutch national and a Canadian national who also perished in the accident.

Tado was on his way to Bontoc because of a certain “40 Mountains Project” associated with the group DAKILA Philippines, a group Tado co-founded.

In a post on Facebook, DAKILA confirmed the death of Tado:

“As of 4:30PM today, we have confirmed that Arvin ‘Tado’ Jimenez, one of the founding members of Dakila, is one of the casualties of the Bontoc bus accident. He is survived by his wife and four children. We will be posting details about the wake as soon as we have coordinated with the family. Thank you.”

Meanwhile, the authorities say that 29 people were brought to the hospital for treatment. Reports also claim that 9 of the fatalities died on the spot.

The driver who survived the accident, said that a mechanical failure lead to the accident. Authorities also say that some observers confirm this story.

Tado made a post on Instagram of a Florida Bus on Thursday. It can be seen that the route of the bus is “Bontoc” via “Solano” and “Banaue”. The bus was slated to leave the terminal 8.35 in the evening yesterday.

He said in the caption, “Long trip, as in trip trip”.

It is unclear whether this is the bus that was involved in the accident.

Tado’s last post on Instagram was of calabazas taken in what was geotagged as “Florida Bus Stop Over – Sta. Fe.” That is in Nueva Vizcaya. The comedian said in the caption, “Bigla ko na alala, grades ko sa eskwela”.

Tado is survived by wife Lei and their four children.

Born to a poor family, Tado was known to be a hard worker, delving in different jobs before finding himself in showbiz.

He rose to fame in 2001 after co-hosting UNTV’s comedy show “Strangebrew”. Tado graduated from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines with a degree in psychology.
