Vhong Navarro’s Lawyer Resigns As Lead CounselThe plot thickens and the turn of events gets more complicated. This is how the controversy about Vhong Navarro, Cedric Lee, and Deniece Cornejo seems right now. As more and more people get involved into the issue, some important figures opt to pull out.
On weekend, the lead counsel for Vhong’s complaint against his assailants resigned. Atty. Dennis Manalo said he begged off from the case because he was sure his service would not be needed anymore because the comedian’s legal team is very reliable and formidable.
Before any other controversy gets into the way of this resignation, Atty. Manalo explained that this decision was also prompted by the latest case he is handling. He said he wants to focus on another and more high profile case.
Pork barrel issue
In case you haven’t notice, Atty. Manalo now also serves as the lead counsel to Rose Tuason, who made the waves before weekend. Who is Rose Tuason? She is the latest provisional state witness to the P10 billion pork barrel scam and the related Malampaya Fund scam.
Rose is one of the defendants in the government’s plunder case against certain individuals, including Janet Lim Napoles, and senators Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Revilla, Jr., and Juan Ponce Enrile. She was abroad but recently decided to come home to testify for the case out of her conscience’s appeal. She is accusing Jinggoy and Johnny Enrile of personally taking commissions from her in the past.
Handing over the case
Back to Vhong’s case, Atty. Manalo said he has turned over the responsibility as lead counsel to Atty. Alma Mallonga, who was visible on Sunday when Vhong graced interviews on both Sunday afternoon gabfests ‘Buzz ng Bayan’ and ‘Startalk.’
He declared that he would not be involved in the case anymore. Atty. Manalo said he has given his share in the case’s investigative process. The lawyer said all the important evidences have already been filed and he is sure the complaint would go through the formal process of the preliminary investigation.
The legal battle
Vhong fled six criminal charges against Cedric, Deniece, and their group. Among those charges are serious physical injuries, grave coercion, blackmail, serious illegal detention, grave threat, and unlawful arrest. At the same time, Vhong is also facing rape charges filed against him by Deniece.
Deniece has been claiming that he raped her on the condo unit that she is renting at Forbeswood Heights in The Fort, Taguig City on the evening of January 22. This allegation is being used by the group as a justification to what they call as a ‘citizen arrest’ they did to Vhong.
