Millenia Suites Counters Roxanne Cabanero ComplaintMillenia Suites, the hotel where Roxanne Cabanero reportedly stayed when the alleged rape happened to her, has contradicted what is indicated in the beauty pageant contestant’s complaint against Vhong Navarro.
According to the management of the hotel in Ortigas, Miss Bikini Philippines contestants did not stay at the hotel on April 24, 2010, the date specified by Cabanero in her complaint when the alleged rape happened.
It can be remembered that Cabanero’s lawyer, Atty. Virgilio Batalla, has recently denied that they specified April 24, 2010 as the date of the rape, contrary to what is indicated in the complaint they have filed in a court in Pasig.
According to Cabanero’s complaint, the contestants of the beauty pageant went to “It’s Showtime” on the date mentioned. After their appearance, Navarro reportedly got her number through one of the show’s staff.
Cabanero claims that later in the afternoon, someone who said he was Navarro started texting her. Initially, the person wanted to come to her hotel room but the woman declined because she did not want her fellow contestants to see them together in the hotel.
Cabanero initially erroneously identified the hotel as Astoria Plaza but this was later corrected by her lawyer to Millenia. Astoria earlier denied hosting the pageant as one of its officials said he personally declined the promotion.
The complainant’s lawyer said that Cabanero thought they stayed at Astoria because that was the hotel which was announced to the contestants of the pageant. He also said that back in 2010, his client was a “probinsiyana” which contributed to her confusion.
In her complaint, the woman said that Navarro fetched her that day, parked under a tree and assaulted her between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.
In an interview with Mario Dumaual, Millenia Suites general manager Angel Suntay said that the hotel did sponsor Miss Bikini Philippines 2010 but the date being specified is not the date the candidates stayed at the hotel.
The manager said that, “the exact date that was being quoted, that was really not the exact date that the pageant was here. That was not the date they arrived with us.”
This is contrary to earlier reports that the hotel did confirm that the contestants were billeted at the hotel on April 24, 2010.
Suntay did not disclose the exact date the contestants stayed at the hotel, however, and said that the pageant management should be organization that discloses this.
The mix-up in the date of the alleged rape follows after Batalla said in a recent interview that the testimony of Vice Ganda, Navarro’s co-host on “It’s Showtime,” is irrelevant to their case.
The comedian, whose real name is Jose Marie Viceral, said that he was with Navarro in a show in Cavite’s Island Cove on the night of April 24. He said Navarro stayed late for the show because he was one of the last acts of the show.
Batalla said in an interview with GMA News that it is Navarro’s camp which is conditioning people to think that the rape happened on April 24. Asked in an interview with TV5, Batalla said the rape happened “During the time of April 24, 25, 26, and 27.”
However, this appears to be contrary to the complaint Cabanero’s camp itself filed as when ABS-CBN News got a copy of the complaint, they discovered that it did specify April 24, 2010 between 11 p.m. and 1 p.m. as the specific timeframe indicated when the alleged rape happened.
Meanwhile, Navarro’s camp has signified its intent to file perjury and libel against Cabanero on March 13 when the preliminary investigation for the case is scheduled to happen.
In an interview with TV5, Atty. Alma Mallonga, Navarro’s legal counsel, said that Cabanero brought the filing of cases against her on herself.
“She made this decision to detail this lurid fairytale about something that happened. She has to bear the consequences,” the lawyer said.
Saying that they will not take Cabanero’s accusations sitting down, the lawyer said that Navarro “will not be a punching bag.”
