Pacquiao To Run For Senator Under BinayPeople’s Champ Manny Pacquiao will be gunning for a senate seat and will run in the upcoming elections as a member of Vice President Jejomar Binay’s new party.
This is according to a news reports by The Philippine Star and Rappler.
According to Binay in a press briefing at the Coconut Palace last Friday, “Basta isasama namin sa slate …. Matagal na naming pinag-uusapan iyan bago pa mag-halalan nang 2013.”
Indeed, Binay has been reportedly courting Pacquiao in the past to run as a senator for the 2013 senatorial elections.
Recently, Binay stepped down as chairman of the United Nationalist Alliance coalition and left the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan saying that the party has problems regarding factionalism. PDP-Laban soon followed Binay and disassociated itself with Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino which formed the UNA coalition.
Nonetheless, after bolting from PDP-Laban, Binay said that his new party will be applying to be a member of the UNA coalition.
Binay is intent to run for the presidency in 2016 and recently said that the party he is forming will be launch on June 12.
Meanwhile, Binay and his allies are also looking at whether they will ask former actors Senator Jinggoy Estrada or Batangas Governor Vilma Santos to be his running mate in the 2016 elections, reports said.
