Jobert Sucaldito Says Vice Ganda's PMPC Win Is PaidVeteran showbiz journalist Jobert Sucaldito said that Vice Ganda's recent win as best actor in the 30th PMPC Awards for Movies was "paid." The journalist questioned the award-giving body, which is the equivalent of the Golden Globes.
Vice celebrated on Twitter when it was announced that he won as Movie Actor of the Year. Vice is in the United States for a series of shows.
On his Facebook page, Jobert explained that all the members of the PMPC--all from showbiz press--thought Joel Torre of "OTJ" was the runaway winner. But because Joel's camp is not willing to pay the members, they didn't want to give the award to him. Instead, one member approached Jobert and asked him if he's willing to lobby for his good friend, ER Ejercito of "Boy Golden."
Other nominees include Dingdong Dantes of "Dance of the Steel Bars," Robin Padilla of "10,000 Hours" and Piolo Pascual of "On The Job." ER and Vice are head to head in the voting.
Although Jobert believed that Joel was the rightful winner of the award, he decided to lobby for ER because he was next in line as best actor. His target was to convince at least 19 of the 38 PMPC members to secure the best actor trophy for the Laguna governor.
But most of the members of the PMPC were apparently paid by a certain Francis Simeon who lobbied for Vice. Jobert even borrowed money from a friend to counter what was being offered by Simeon.
However, three of the members of the PMPC executive branch--Mel Navarro, Roldan Catro and Fernan de Guzman--have all voted for Vice because they already gave their commitments to the comedian-TV host.
Although he already lobbied for 22 votes, Jobert said ER was still beaten by Vice in the best actor race. Out of the 38 members, if he already got 22 votes, that means Vice only got 16 votes.
Jobert said he personally talked with many of these members and they all said they are going to vote for Vice. When he asked to see the result of the voting, the members didn't want to be transparent about it.
Because he is not a member of the PMPC, he is allowed to lobby for a nominee. PMPC members, however, are not allowed to do this.
"Nanggagao sila kasi eh. Puwes, magkabukohan na tayo. Vice Ganda's winning was paid. I am willing to talk at any convenient time at paninindigan ko ito at any given time at your convenience. Ngayon, nasaan na ang tunay na kredibilidad ng PMPC?."
Vice has yet to comment about this issue. On his Twitter account, he congratulated KC Concepcion who won as best actress for her role in "Boy Golden."
