Gretchen Posts Bail For Claudine’s Former Personal AssistantClaudine Barretto’s former personal assistant who has been jailed after the actress charged her with qualified theft has left prison.
Dessa Patilan was released on Monday afternoon after she was bailed out by no other than Gretchen Barretto, Claudine’s sister who she is still feuding with.
The elder Barretto posted the P60,000 bail that Patilan needed.
While on her way out of the Marikina City Hall of Justice together with her lawyers Atty. Noel Lazaro and Atty. Alma Mallonga, Patilan told members of the press that she is really happy to be out.
“Masaya po, masaya po,” she said.
The 20-year-old has been in jail for almost 10 months after Claudine accused her of stealing jewelry and money worth up to P8.5 million.
In the interview with members of the press, it was revealed that Gretchen had a hand in involving Atty. Mallonga, now a very high profile lawyer for celebrities. She is also representing Vhong Navarro in the hot issue the actor and host is currently in.
According to the lawyer, it was Gretchen who asked them to look into Patilan’s case which they took on pro bono or without a fee.
Patilan profusely thanked Gretchen for her kindness as she, close to tears, said, “Nagpapasalamat po ako sa kanya [Gretchen] kasi kahit ganito lang po ako, tumulong po siya sa akin.”
Atty. Mallonga said that Gretchen believes that “doing the right thing is a good thing to do.”
The lawyer clarified, however, that Gretchen just loaned the money to Patilan. “In element, medyo yung bail naman na yun ay ibabalik naman, e, so long as Dessa faces the judges, dumating siya at haharap sa kaso,” Atty. Mallonga said.
Meanwhile, the former assistant revealed that she once felt like she has lost everything that she tried to take her own life.
Asked whether there was a time she felt hopeless, Patilan revealed that she tried to bleed herself to death around October of last year.
She was saved by the staff of the prison, she said.
Asked if she is angry at Claudine for saying she stole, a charge she has consistently denied, Patilan said that she once was very angry at the actress but that anger has passed.
