Dingdong Dantes Has No Plans For 2016 ElectionsKapuso primetime king Dingdong Dantes denied that the reason why he pursued his bachelor's degree is because he's preparing for the 2016 elections. Dingdong graduated last week from the West Negros University.
Dingdong said he has no plans of running for a government position in 2016. He simply finished his degree to get it off his back and to have something to fall back on just in case he wants to pursue a master's degree.
Are there political groups convincing him to run? Although they are not hard-selling him, the actor said he keeps in touch with his friends in the political arena. They are also helping him in his advocacies.
"These are friends that I look up to and I believe in. Bilang sila ang batikan diyan, they never fail to give me advice at umaalay, kumbaga, sa mga puwede kong gawin bilang normal citizen."
Dingdong is the founder and chairman of the Yes Pinoy Foundation, which was established in 2009. The non-profit organization aims to develop educational programs for youth who are not able to send themselves to school.
One of the newest projects launched by the Yes Pinoy Foundation is the raising of funds for 3,000 school chairs for the Estancia Central Elementary School in Iloilo. This school has been badly affected by Typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.
Dingdong hopes the school chairs can be turned over before the start of the school year in June. Aside from this Dingdong also personally provided school supplies to the Zonta Elementary School in Sta. Ana District, Davao City last March 14.
The actor shared that GMA Network Regional is the one who chooses the beneficiary school of his foundation. It is a message from the actor and GMA Network that they are not only out there to provide entertainment for the audience, but they are also visible in terms of helping students.
When they go to mall shows, they don't usually meet these students because they are not allowed to go to malls or because they are far from the malls.
Even before the Yes Pinoy Foundation, Dingdong has been active in youth-oriented and socio-civic works.
When he was still studying, Dingdong is not active in his advocacies. "Nagsisi ako nun na dapat medyo gumawa ako ng something kaya bumabawi talaga ako."
Before West Negros University, where he finished his degree in Business Administration, Dingdong attended San Beda College and Ateneo de Manila University. He was not able to finish his courses in these two schools because of his showbiz career.
Dingdong looked for a university that will credit the units he has already taken. He was able to apply the communication and management course he took in Ateneo.
West Negros University has a distance learning program. Dingdong submitted his assignments through the Internet. He also consulted with his professors through the world wide web.
The actor believes finishing the course can help him a lot in his showbiz career. He took up an accounting subject, so he now understands a bit about income tax.
"Itong mga bagay na ito, kapag ‘di mo matutunan sa classroom, you have to make an extra effort para maintindihan mo."
Now, he understands how to compute his income tax, why he needs to pay as much and where it is going.
"Kung maiintindihan mo how everything around us works, including yung pagbenta ng produkto, yung mga ginagawa ng boss namin sa station, mas maa-appreciate mo kung anong value ng work mo as an actor."
