Slimmers World International Sues Roxanne Cabañero For P1.6MThe organizer of Miss Bikini Philippines is suing Roxanne Cabañero and seeking P1.6 million from the former beauty pageant contestant.
According to Slimmers World International executive vice-president Helen Camacho, the case was filed at the Makati Regional Trial Court on April 8 and was raffled to Judge Max de Leon of Branch 143 on April 11, a report from ABS-CBN reveals.
Cabañero is accusing actor and television host Vhong Navarro of raping her while she was in Metro Manila in 2010 for that year’s Miss Bikini Philippines. Because of the accusation, the name of Slimmers World has been dragged into the issue.
Slimmers World is seeking P1 million "for the damage sustained by [Slimmers World’s] goodwill and business reputation," according to the company. Furthermore, the company is also seeking P400,000 as corrective damages and P205,000 as legal costs.
According to the organization, the moral damages is for the former contestant’s frequent and unnecessary mention of Miss Bikini Philippines and Slimmers World International in her interviews and in her rape complaint.
“There is no mistaking that she made mention of Miss Bikini Philippines for no other purpose but to generate publicity, if not sympathy, for her purported plight, to the prejudice of the goodwill of [the pageant and the company],” the complaint said.
Furthermore, the complaint said that the mentions made by the former contestant of the organization and the beauty pageant has exposed the pageant to condemnation for “failing to protect its contestants.”
Moreover, the pageant organizer said that the former contestant did not follow contest rules when she allegedly entertained visitors while the pageant was underway.
Cabañero said initially in her complaint that she and fellow contestants of Miss Bikini Philippines visited the set of “It’s Showtime” on April 24, 2010. She claimed that a staff member of the show asked for her number during the visit and said that Navarro requested it. In the afternoon of the said date, the former pageant contestant received an SMS from a person who claimed that he was Navarro.
Later that night, Cabañero was allegedly raped by Navarro inside his vehicle after he fetched her from the Astoria Plaza hotel. The contestant reportedly did not want Navarro to visit her inside her hotel room because she didn’t want fellow contestants to see she was being visited by the celebrity.
However, Cabañero later changed the hotel name to Millenia Suites after Astoria Plaza and Slimmers World denied contestants were billeted at the Astoria Plaza. Cabañero also later denied having specified April 24, 2010 as the date of the alleged rape after evidence was presented in court to support the claim that Navarro could not have been in the vicinity of Pasig City near midnight on the said date. Navarro was apparently in Cavite in a Vice Ganda show. He reportedly stayed late as he had a performance towards the end of the show.
According to Atty. Virgilio Batalla in subsequent interviews, the alleged rape happened “during the time of April 24, 25, 26, and 27.” Furthermore, he explained that his client had a hard time remembering the dates and the hotels because she was just a probinsiyana at the time of the alleged rape.
The rape case filed by Cabañero comes after Navarro was charged with rape by Deniece Cornejo for an event that allegedly happened in January of this year. Cabañero filed her complaint at the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office in February.
Cabañero’s rape complaint as well as Navarro’s perjury countersuit were recently transferred from the Pasig court to the Department of Justice.
