Court Issues Non Bailable Warrant Of Arrest For Cedric Lee, Deniece CornejoThe Taguig Metropolitan Court has released the non-bailable warrants of arrest against Deniece Cornejo, Cedric Lee, et al for the serious illegal detention case filed against them by "It's Showtime" host Vhong Navarro.
Also included in the warrants are other suspects in the mauling of the TV host-actor. These are Simeon “Zimmer” Raz Jr., Ferdinand Guerrero and Sajed “Jed” Fernandez Abuhijleh.
Two other suspects, Bernice Lee and Jose Paulo "JP" Calma, are not included in the warrant. It is not clear why.
Last week, a warrant of arrest was also issued in connection to the grave coercion case filed by Vhong. Deniece and Jed posted the bail of P12,000. This time, the case is a non-bailable offense. It is not clear what will happen next. Reports said law enforcement will be forced to arrest and put to jail the suspects.
According to the warrant of arrest, signed by Judge Esperanza Cortes, the defense of Cedric and his group is not enough to prove the validity of the "citizen's arrest" they effected against Vhong on the night of January 17.
This was in relation to Deniece's accusations that Vhong raped her twice in January. Cedric said they "arrested" Vhong to help their friend. The rape complaint has since been junked by the DOJ for lack of merit.
On April 11, Deniece's and Cedric's camps filed for a motion for reconsideration, but the court decided to submit for resolution the serious illegal detention case on April 16.
Vhong's camp took offense that the court did not issue a warrant of arrest against Bernice and JP. This was probably because both of them were outside the condo unit at the time the mauling happened.
According to Atty. Alma Mallonga, Vhong's legal counsel, the two should also pay the consequences for the role they played in the mauling of the TV host-actor.
Bernice is the sister of Cedric. She was one of those seen in the CCTV footage surrendered by Forbeswood Heights.
Atty. Alma said the warrants against Deniece, Cedric and others show an "important development" in their quest for justice. "We are truly thankful. We have faith in the process. We will continue to work hard to ensure that all who are responsible for the crime are held to account."
But she added that under the "facts and the law," Bernice and JC are also "equally culpable."
"We will avail of all legal remedies to bring them to the bar of justice."
Meanwhile, veteran journalist Tony Calvento said one of the suspects in the mauling is willing to turn state witness and reveal the "Oplan Bugbog" against Vhong.
This is being studied by the court and the witness protection program.
