Boots Anson Roa Set To Sue Expat For Defamation, Physical InjuryVeteran actress Boots Anson-Roa is determined to sue a foreigner after allegedly being humiliated and hit using a folded newspaper.
According to Anson-Roa, 68, who is set to marry lawyer Francisco “King” Rodrigo Jr., 74, this coming June 14, the incident happened on May 22 at the lobby of the condominium in Quezon City where she lives.
GMA News says that Anson-Roa has found out that the foreigner is a certain Ross Hemingway, an Australian-Canadian expatriate who has a Filipina wife. According to Roa, she also found out that this is not the first time Hemingway, who also lives in the condominium building she currently resides in, allegedly confronted a fellow resident of the condominium.
Anson-Roa, who is the current president of the Mowelfund, said that while she was at the lobby, the foreigner allegedly berated her, left, returned, and hit her with a folded newspaper. The actress said that this has been the first time she has been treated that way.
In a “Chika Minute” report on “24 Oras,” Anson Roa said, “Dumating itong tao sa likod ko at minura ako in English...'bakit mo binabasa 'yan 'di naman sa'yo 'yan.' So nagulat ako...hindi nga ako sigurado kung ako ang pinagsasabihan… Binalikan ako, at 'yong hawak niyang diyaryo tiniklop, hinampas ako dito sa left arm.”
According to the actress, the guard on duty at the time, identified to be a certain Reycar Dionglay, saw the incident.
Anson-Roa is said to be set to pursue charges of defamation and physical injury against Hemingway, saying that no foreigner should be able to maltreat a Filipino, especially a woman, that way.
