BIR System Confuses Zoren LegaspiActor-director Zoren Legaspi is disappointed with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for immediately filing a case against him a day after he received the notice for his tax evasion case.
He said this after the preliminary hearing on June 6 at the Department of Justice (DOJ). Zoren said there is a flaw in the BIR's system, and he almost wanted to be called a tax evader just to finish the issue.
He questioned the basis of the BIR to say that he did not pay P4.45 million worth of tax in 2010 and 2012 when he was one of the top individual taxpayers of Pasig in 2010.
"So ang sinisisi ko na lang dito ay yung system, hindi yung mga tao."
According to BIR's charges, Zoren only declared P6.79 million worth of income in 2010 and P1.82 million in 2012. But based on BIR records, Zoren earned P9.64 million in 2010 and P64.9 million in 2012.
He had a tax liability of P4.45 million because of the undeclared income in 2010 and 2012.
Zoren's affidavit stated that it was his accountant who managed all his tax payments. He also said that he does not know if there was anything wrong or right in his tax documents.
The actor-director further stated that the case filed against him by the BIR was premature because he only received the notice on May 7, or a day before the case was filed against him.
He is also curious as to why he has four tax identification numbers (TINs) when he is only using one number.
"Bakit naman ako gagamit ng multiple TIN numbers? Why? Para hindi ako makabayad? Bakit naman ayokong magbayad?"
On the other hand, the BIR said it will not withdraw the case it filed against Zoren even though he already paid the tax liability.
The second preliminary investigation for the tax evasion case is set on June 16.
