Ryan Agoncillo Talks About New Sitcom And Fatherhood

Ryan Agoncillo will star alongside Carla Abellana for the new GMA-7 sitcom "Ismol Family." Although it is mostly comedy, Ryan said there are some drama moments too.

Ryan plays the role of Jingo, who was left by his wife Majay (Carla) to take care of their son PJ (Marc Justin Alvarez) because she has to work as a welder in Dubai.

There are also naughty moments too. All their episodes have themes, which mean every episode is focused on a particular value or tradition.

For example, they already shot an episode about forgiveness. Another one was about commuting and transportation.

Is there a chance that his wife Judy Ann Santos will guest on the show? There is a subplot in the story that Majay is an avid fan of Juday. There's always that possibility, Ryan said.

Since Ryan is a doting father to PJ in the show, how is he faring as a father to children Yohan and Lucho? He hopes he is doing a good job of it. He's very firm as a father, "definitely."

He doesn't believe that parents should spoil their children. Ryan is a firm believer of spending a lot of time together with the kids. "Even if it’s just being quiet in the same room, basta magkakasama kayo, okay na yun."

Yohan is already in fifth grade. This means that she has crushes already. Although Ryan doesn't want to think about it, he believes it is normal to have crushes.

He also doesn't want for them to go into showbiz full-time. It's okay for them to do commercials, but they have to finish their studies first.

In "Ismol Family," Carmi Martin plays Ryan's mother-in-law. Since they are living in the same house, there were times that they argue.

In reality, Ryan has a good relationship with his mother-in-law, Mommy Carol. "Well si Mommy Carol naman kasi, meron kaming mutual admiration society! So, ako, I’m very lucky I have a very good relationship with my mother-in-law."

Mommy Carol is very careful about staying with them. She stays for a week or two then she gives them space immediately. "So, it’s not as if she’s in our face all the time."

All she wants is to spend time with her grandchildren. Two weeks ago, Ryan said they went to a Batangas beach with the children and Mommy Carol.
