Ricky Davao Says He Has No Issue With Judy Ann Santos-AgoncilloRicky Davao is fine with the decision of actress Judy Ann Santos to pull out from the Cinemalaya entry "Mariquina." Some said Judy Ann didn't take it kindly that Ricky replaced the role of Joel Torre, who was supposed to be Judy Ann's father in the movie.
Ricky doesn't know if someone was picked to play Judy Ann's role already because they haven't shot anything yet.
He admitted that they were all excited to work with Judy Ann, and that it's too bad she won't be pushing with the film. "Pero siyempre, baka naman may iba siyang gagawin o ano. Okay lang, nagpasabi naman siya sa aming lahat na hindi siya puwede."
Judy Ann wasn't the one who told them she can't go on with the movie though. She sent an emissary.
Reports said Judy Ann had a problem with the schedule of the movie, and that's why she was unable to be a part of it. Other reports pointed out that the actress was offended that she wasn't informed about the change in actors.
Paul Soriano, the movie's producer, was in the US when Judy Ann told him that she couldn't push forward with the movie. Paul was the one who told the cast when he went home.
Judy Ann backed out when they have already begun shooting for the film. Ricky, however, said he doesn't have any ill feeling toward the actress.
He will have no problems if he will work with Judy Ann in the future. He already directed a week or two of "Esperanza," "Star Drama" and "MMK" before although he isn't sure if they had a scene together.
"Sayang, sayang... marami pa naman 'yan, I’m sure."
Meanwhile, Ricky also talked about the show "Dading," which he is directing. He said that it could not be compared to GMA-7's "My Husband's Lover" since the former has a light theme.
They are also not concentrated on the gay relationship since Gabby Eigenmann will portray the role of a gay father and a bestfriend to his ex-girlfriend. That will be the focus of the show.
He has no problem with Gabby as an actor because he is very talented. He also approves of all his cast. "Lahat sila, ang gagaling nila, so walang problema. Actually, I’m very lucky to have all these actors with me now na katrabaho ko, kasi lahat okay, e, lahat magagaling."
The show will also star Glaiza de Castro, Benjamin Alves and Shamaine Buencamino.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) was very critical of "My Husband's Lover." Does he fear being censored by the same organization?
"That I cannot say, depende na kung ano ang magiging... pero we’re very careful about it. At saka ang sa amin naman, e, sa totoo lang, kung tatanggalin mo yung gender, it’s just about relationships."
He won't be concentrating on the character as a gay person, rather on the relationships he will be cultivating with the other roles.
Although his attack on the characters is very light, Ricky said that there will also be some hard moments there. "May mga moments din na madrama rin. Ang ibig kong sabihin, may pain din 'pag pinanood mo at magulang ka."
Some said that he is being pirated by other networks, but Ricky shrugged this off. He said he just missed acting.
