She garnered the highest percentage of text and online votes during the two-night finale that trended on Twitter and Facebook. There were three rounds in the finale—the Power Ballad, the Upbeat Song and a special performance with a chosen artist.
Lyca will go home with P1 million cash, a one-year recording contract with MCA Universal, a house and lot from Camella Homes, a home appliance showcase, a musical instrument showcase, and P1 million worth of trust fund.
Lyca belongs to the team of Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo. Another one from Team Sarah, Darren Espanto, placed second in the reality singing contest. He sang “You Are My Song” with Martin Nievera. Darren even played the piano in the first part of the performance before joining Martin at the front of the stage.
At third place is Juan Karlos Labajo (Team Bamboo), who sang “Eto Na Naman” with Gary Valenciano. Team Lea’s Darlene Vibares sang “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” with Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha.
During the first part of the finale on July 26 (Saturday), Lyca impressed the judges with her rendition of “Narito Ako” by Regine Velasquez and “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. Darren sang “Ngayon” by Basil Valdez and “Somebody to Love” by Justin Bieber.
On the other hand, Juan Karlos sang “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars and “Yesterday” by The Beatles. Darlene sang “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas” and “Louder.”
But even before “The Voice Kids” started airing, there is already a lot of hype about Lyca after her blind auditions, wherein she sang “Halik” by Aegis. It was used as a teaser for the program, and it instantly became a hit. It also trended on Twitter and Facebook.
As she fought her way through the Battle Rounds and the Semi-Finals, the little belter was dubbed as a “Little Superstar,” owing to her masa appeal. She is known for her performances and her humble background as a daughter of a fisherman. She also usually helps her mother scavenge for junk to sell.
In exchange for cash or food, Lyca also said she would usually sing for her neighbors.
Aside from the show itself, other “The Voice Kids” related topics trended on Twitter such as #TVKDarrenForTheChampion #WowAngGwapoNiLuis (referring to host Luis Manzano), Jhong Hilario, Lani Misalucha, Gary V and JK, and You Are My Song.
The star-studded finale had an opening number by the four finalists, the three coaches and “The Voice Philippines” Season 1 grand winner, Mitoy Yonting, and finalists, Klarisse de Guzman, Myk Perez and Janice Javier.
“The Voice Kids” consistently rated well since its conception. Its all-time highest ranking was recorded on June 8 at 37.6%. The season 2 of “The Voice Philippines” is expected to air before the year ends.
