Sarah Geronimo Thinks Darren Espanto Would Win On “The Voice Kids”Sarah Geronimo thought that Fil-Canadian Darren Espanto, one of her finalists for “The Voice Kids PH” grand champion, will take home the crown after his powerful rendition of Basil Valdez’s “Ngayon” during the first part of the two-part finale episode.
Sarah said Darren’s performance on July 26 (Saturday) really outshone all the other contestants. But during the second day (July 27, Sunday) of the finale, Lyca Gairanod, the eventual champion, was able to lift herself with her performance of “Basang Basa Sa Ulan” with Aegis.
At the end of the day, its Lyca’s mass appeal and performance that won the heart of voters. Sarah said Lyca’s humble beginnings didn’t let the belter stop her from pursuing her dreams of becoming a singer. The Popstar Princess said that more than the title of being the first grand champion of “The Voice Kids,” what’s more important is how they will make use of this opportunity in the industry.
Sarah said she is very happy for Lyca, and also for Darren, because they were able to prove their mettle as singers. Whoever won among the four finalists, including Team Bamboo’s Juan Karlos and Team Lea’s Darlene, would be fine for the Popstar Princess. It’s just extra special that the grand champion came from her team.
The singer admitted she was caught in between as to how she will campaign for them because they are both deserving to win. Sarah said she is simply overwhelmed and lucky that Darren and Lyca chose her to be their mentor.
Even though the show is over, Sarah added she will continue to support her two protégés—Lyca and Darren.
