Heart Evangelista Attends PNOy’s 5th SONAHeart Evangelista was one of the people who attended President Benigno Aquino III’s 5th State Of The Nation Address (SONA). She was there with boyfriend, Senator Chiz Escudero.
This is the second time Heart attended the SONA with her boyfriend. She also attended the one last year as the muse of the senator. Heart said it’s a different experience to attend something like it because it’s very different from what showbiz personalities usually do.
She learned a lot from it, and she gets to meet a lot of people from the political arena. Heart said she sometimes feels conscious because of the big names she is meeting.
Heart also gave her reaction to the President’s speech, which turned emotional when he mentioned his parents—the late former President Corazon Aquino and Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. The actress said it’s important that the people realize the President is also human and can make mistakes.
She was touched by the President’s speech because she felt his sincerity. She added that it also showed the President is not perfect. It’s also natural to see people shedding tears because of his speech. Even the President’s sister, Kris Aquino, cried when their parents were mentioned.
Her boyfriend, Senator Escudero, was also touched by the President’s speech. As a leader, Heart said she feels that his goal is to support the President. The important thing is, the President was able to show his human side and the things he was able to do for the people.
Meanwhile, Heart defended Senator Nancy Binay who was bashed by the netizens because of her gown during the second regular session of Congress. She wore a different gown during the actual SONA. “I don't think it's fair for people to bash kung ano man ang suot o would care so much on what they are wearing.”
It was not a fashion event, the actress said, adding that the important thing was the purpose of their attending the SONA.
On the other hand, Heart’s gown was praised by fashionistas. She wore an avant garde terno by Joey Samson. She said she was flattered by the people’s praises. Of course, she still does not believe and encourage the SONA to be a fashion event. Although it was fun to dress up, Heart said it was not the main purpose of the event.
Heart said the people were focused on what they were wearing that they forgot the SONA was about what the President envisions for the country. That isn’t fair, Heart said, although she prepared for the event and she wanted to look good herself.
It’s not every day that she gets to wear a Filipiniana. But at the same time, Heart wants it to be simple, so she planned that with her designer. She doesn’t feel, though, that she was given much attention during the event. She felt that everybody was given proper attention during the SONA.
