JM De Guzman Admits Stint In Rehab For Drug UseAfter one year, actor-singer JM de Guzman broke his silence and talked about going to rehab for drug use.
It can be remembered that in 2012, ABS-CBN suddenly finished his teleserye, “Angelito,” and he was pulled out by his father, Roniel, from the biopic Pedro Calungsod last year. JM's role was taken over by Rocco Nacino.
JM is now back in showbiz, and ABS-CBN has welcomed him with open arms. In fact, JM has already taped for an episode of "Ipaglaban Mo." He felt nervous during his first taping day. Also, he wants to do another teleserye for the network.
If he will be given a chance, JM said he will, of course, do his best. The last teleserye JM was seen was in "Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto" in 2012.
He was at the peak of his career, but JM had to leave because of his drug problems. He admitted all the rumors before that the staff and crew had a problem with him in "Angelito," and that's why they usually pack up earlier than usual.
JM said he became irresponsible and he lost his discipline. "I lost control." He went into rehab because he became unmanageable, the actor said, adding that he felt good when using drugs that time.
He was the one who told his family that he needed to enter rehab. He was surprised with himself. He talked about this with his grandfather, Cornelio de Guzman, who recently passed away.
JM decided to enter rehab because he felt uncontrollable already to the point that he could not trust his own decisions.
What he can remember was he woke up with six burly men holding his head, arms and legs. He was injected with a sleeping potion, and he went into detox for a week. Afterwards, he stayed in rehab for 10 months. He never even went out for vacation.
There is a structure inside the rehab. When they wake up, they had to exercise and prepare breakfast. Afterwards, the consultations will begin.
Inside the rehab, he finally appreciated the small things. Before, he thought he can surpass small and big things. He learned "inside" that there is a God who will help him get through it all--that he's not left alone to take care of these things.
He had regrets, but he tried as much as possible not to think about that. His program will last for two more months, but JM said it will be a lifelong recovery.
Meanwhile, JM also cleared ex-girlfriend Jessy Mendiola's name on his decision to go into drugs. That was his decision and his choice, the actor added.
That was the reason why they finally broke up; one of the many reasons, JM said.
He is only thankful to Star Magic because they still accepted him despite what happened to him. "Kasi, hindi naman lahat ng tao nabibigyan ng ganitong pagkakataon at hindi naman lahat ng tao, nabibigyan ng pangalawang pagkakataon."
