Derek Ramsay Confirms Marriage And Son

Derek Ramsay confirmed that he was married to Mary Christine Jolly in 2002 and they have an 11-year-old son. He confirmed this through a statement he sent to the media on August 20.

The actor, however, said he thought that marriage was null and void. He denied that he was married in previous interviews.

He also denied the allegations made by Mary Christine on her complaint against Derek for violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act.

Mary Christine said Derek emotionally, mentally and financially abused her and their son. He also did not support their son for the past 11 years.

This morning, Derek, together with his legal counsel Atty. Joji Alonso, went to the Makati City Prosecutor's Office to file and swore on his counteraffidavit regarding his estranged wife's complaint.

According to the statement, Mary Christine's complaint is "replete with deliberate lies and facts intended to be misleading and deceptive."

There were two truths in the complaint: one, that he and Mary Jolly were married in 2002 (but he thought this was not valid for various reasons) and that he has a son named Austin Gabriel Ramsay.

It was only Atty. Joji who explained to Derek that the information given to him about the status of their marriage is "erroneous." He added that unless a marriage is annulled, it will remain valid.

Since he learned in August 2011 that Austin was his son, he wanted to get to know him and keep their relationship private.

Austin was just eight years old then, and Derek wanted to protect him from the possible media circus that would descend upon him once his presence was made known. He was then new to the country and he was pursuing his studies.

"Given the circumstances between Mary and I, which is far from ideal, I had to protect Austin first."
