Kris Aquino Tops The List Of 500 Individual Taxpayers In 2011

Kris Aquino posted the biggest income in 2011 in the entire Philippines. This is based on the tax she filed for that year. She topped the list of Top 500 individual taxpayers for 2011 as compiled by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). She filed a taxable income that was higher than the respective revenues of the country’s wealthiest tycoons, politicians, and other celebrities.

The 42-year old controversial actress and TV host paid a total of P49.87 million in taxes. That made her the highest-earning individual for 2011. This does not surprise anyone. The youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III had a couple of blockbuster movies, numerous product endorsements, and up to three regular hit TV shows during the period.

In 2010, Ms. Aquino was at No. 17 in the list of Top 500 individual taxpayers. That year, she paid a total of P32.3 million in taxes. She was at No. 1 in the list of highest tax-paying celebrities. A year after, her taxable income obviously rose further, making her get into the No. 1 spot not just for celebrities but for all taxpayers in the country.

Here are the top 10 individual taxpayers in 2011:
1. Kris Aquino – P49.87 million
2. Gregory Reichow (Sun Power Philippines VP) – P38.19 million
3. Lauro Baja (Philippines’ Ambassador to the UN)- P34.26 million
4. Manuel V. Pangilinan – P25.99 million
5. Aurelio Montinola III (BPI President) – P24.47 million
6. Gerardo Ablaza Jr (Manila Water chief) – P22.65 million
7. Philippe Jones Lhuillier – P21.64 million
8. Victor Manguerra Angeles – P21.20 million
9. Roberto Panlilio (JP Morgan executive) – P19.61 million
10. Felipe Gozon (GMA Network President) – P19.59 million

Where are the tycoons?

Interestingly, none of the local tycoons who were cited by Forbes magazine as among the wealthiest individuals in the world made it to the list of Top 10 individual taxpayers. SM Conglomerate’s Henry Sy paid only P16.58 million in taxes, making him land the No. 15 spot.

Lucio Tan, the second richest man in the country (according to Forbes) was at No. 35, after paying P10.79 million in taxes. Property developer David Consunji only paid P5.91 million in taxes and took the No. 176 spot.

Other celebrities

How did other celebrities fare in the list? TV host and movie producer Vic Sotto was No. 19 after paying P14.73 million in taxes. Joey de Leon was at No.28 (P12.48 million). Other celebrities in the list were: Charo Santos-Concio at No. 33 (P11.61 million), Solenn Heussaff at No. 99 (P7.79 million), Derek Ramsay at No. 120 (P7.08 million), Piolo Pascual at No. 123 (P6.98 million), Kim Chiu at No. 133 (P6.71 million), and Rep. Manny Pacquiao at No. 158 (P6.11 million).

Sharon Cuneta was another big dropper at No. 191 after filing a P5.74 million income tax. The two celebrities notably filed lower annual income after transferring from ABS-CBN to TV5.

Other celebrities in the BIR’s list of Top 500 individual taxpayers in 2011 included Ogie Alcasid, Ryan Agoncillo, John Lloyd Cruz, Mike Enriquez, Joseph and Estrada.
