Court Sentences To Life Imprisonment Actor Dennis Roldan For Kidnapping A Fil-ChineseThe Pasig City Regional Trial Court sentenced to life imprisonment actor Dennis Roldan after he was found guilty of masterminding the kidnapping of a Chinese-Filipino boy in 2005.
Dennis, whose real name is Mitchell Gumabao, faced the Pasig City RTC Branch 167 on August 26 to hear the decision on his case. His co-accused in the crime, Rowena San Andres and Adrian Domingo, were also found guilty.
Another accused, Octavio Garces, was found not guilty. Octavio was the one to point at Dennis as the mastermind of the kidnapping. A co-mastermind of the crime, Suzette Wang, is still in hiding. Suzette is apparently the girlfriend of Dennis and a friend of the kidnapped child's family.
Dennis is a former Quezon City representative, and is a part of GMA-7's "My Destiny."
In February 2005, Dennis together with the co-accused were arrested and detained at the Pasig City Jail after the three-year-old Chinese-Filipino boy was rescued in a house in Cubao, Quezon City.
In July 2006, Dennis was bailed out for P500,000. That same month, 10 witnesses spoke out against the actor. One of the witnesses was Jenny Yu, the mother of the kidnapped child, who showed her text exchanges with Dennis, who was then asking for ransom money.
In August 2008, the child, who was then six years old, positively identified Dennis and Rowena as his kidnappers.
Dennis is now at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. His camp said they will file an appeal at the Court of Appeals.
The actor said "this is just a beginning" of a seemingly long process for justice.
Aside from being an actor and a politician, Dennis is also a pastor for Jesus Christ The Life Giver Ministry International. He is the father of De La Salle University volleyball player and "Pinoy Big Brother All In" housemate Michelle Gumabao and ABS-CBN talent Marco Gumabao.
He is also the brother of former actress Isabel Rivas.
