The Eigenmann family has yet to release a statement regarding the actor's death. He was said to be suffering from cirrhosis of the liver.
A statement from his manager was released confirming his death. The statement said the family is in deep grieving and they want a private time with him.
The Eigenmann clan will issue an official statement within the day, but Mark's manager asked for prayers and for strength in the meantime.
Mark, whose real name is Ralph John Eigenmann, would have celebrated his 53 birthday on September 25. He is the son of veteran actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and the brother of Michael de Mesa and Cherie Gil.
Mark left behind his children--Gabby Eigenmann and Ira Eigenmann from actress-commercial model Irene Celebre, Sid Lucero and Max Eigenmann from actress Bing Pimentel, and Andi Eigenmann from actress Jaclyn Jose.
Since 2006, Mark has been married to Maricar Jacinto.
His last project was on ABS-CBN's primetime series "The Legal Wife," which starred Maja Salvador, Jericho Rosales and Angel Locsin. In 2013, he was also seen in GMA7's "Indio" and "My Husband's Lover."
He made 100 movies, with the last one being "Seduction" in 2013. He also did over 30 teleseryes.
Mark is considered one of the most bankable actors of his generation. He started as a leading man, and then went on to do contrabida roles.
