Iza Calzado Asks For Judy Ann Santos' Blessing To Do "Maria Leonora Teresa"Iza Calzado is aware that she was not part of the original cast for the thriller "Maria Leonora Teresa." Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo was the first choice for that, but she wasn't able to push through with the project because of some conflicts.
"Maria Leonora Teresa" is a horror drama movie by Star Cinema about three parents who lost their children because of a road accident. The souls then possessed the dolls they bought to replace their children.
Iza explained that she was not originally part of the cast, but she received a call from Direk Wenn Deramas that he wants her to star in the movie. The actress said she'll be doing the teleserye "Hawak Kamay," but Direk Wenn insisted that her schedule can accommodate it.
She then learned from her manager, Noel Ferrer, that the role was originally for Juday. So, she asked her manager to ask Juday if it's okay for her that Iza will accept the role. Juday said she has no problem with it.
Aside from Iza, the movie will also star odi Sta. Maria, Zanjoe Marudo, Joem Bascon, Dante Ponce, Maria Isabel Lopez, Cris Villanueva, Tess Antonio, Joey Paras, Eagle Riggs and Atak. It was written by Keiko Aquino.
Iza said it was just out of courtesy to Juday to ask for her blessing for the role, but she clarified she never took it forcibly from Juday.
She thanked Juday for the blessings, though. Juday and Iza have been friends since they did "Ouija" (2007) and "Mga Mumunting Lihim" (2012).
It doesn't matter to Iza that she's the second choice only when it comes to the role. She said that Sandra Bullock wasn't the first choice for the critically acclaimed movie, "Gravity."
"Kung lagi mong iisipin yung ego, kung palagi mo siyang pagaganahin, saan ka dadalhin nun sa buhay mo."
She said that she just wants to be better in her role, and she wants to offer something new from her roles in "Starting Over Again," "Somebody To Love," "Barber's Tales" and "Hawak Kamay."
Meanwhile, Iza said she gets tired, too, from all the projects coming her way. But of course, she's grateful for all the opportunities. She prays a lot because she needed the strength to be better in her craft no matter how much she lacked sleep.
She added that she feels bittersweet because her father, Lito Calzado, was not able to witness her success in showbiz now. She maintained, though, that she's thankful to ABS-CBN for the "wonderful opportunities."
There are times she remembers her father and feels sad that he wasn't able to see her now, but this may be a part of how he's guiding her and how he's making sure she's doing good.
She can feel his presence in her life, especially when she got the part in "Hawak Kamay." She has always wanted to work with Piolo Pascual.
Iza wants to keep making him and her mother proud. Her dad passed away in 2011 while his mother died in 2001.
