Jennylyn Mercado Dismisses Possible Romance With Derek Ramsay

Even before the rumors start, Jennylyn Mercado already wants to clarify that nothing is going on between her and Derek Ramsay, her co-star for the Metro Manila Film Fest Entry "English Only Please."

Jen said she is comfortable working with Derek. They were never awkward to each other even during the first time they met for a screen test.

Derek, in an earlier interview, said he shares many similarities with Jen. The actress agreed because Derek is like her male version. They have a sporty and an active lifestyle, and they both love to eat.

They're just friends, Jen said, adding that they get to hang out with the cast and crew of the movie. She was surprised to find out that he's really a nice person, and that he's easy to get along with.

Derek is very open, and can talk and make jokes with everyone, the actress-singer said.

They won't have any kissing or sexy scenes in the movie because it's a comedy, a feel-good film. Derek plays the role of a Fil-Am who was brokenhearted because he was left by his fiancé.

He wrote a lengthy letter in English, but he needed someone to translate it to Tagalog, so Derek's character held an audition for translators over Skype. That's where the story started, Jen said.

She did not want to comment when asked about the characteristics that Derek has to be a possible boyfriend. "Mahirap nang mabigyan ng kulay, wala namang kulay."

Meanwhile, the actress-singer also clarified that she and ex-boyfriend Dennis Trillo are just friends. Dennis is a guest in her new album along with Janno Gibbs.

Although she is not completely closing her door on a possible reconciliation, Jen said having a boyfriend is not in her agenda. Her last boyfriend was Luis Manzano, who is now with Angel Locsin.
