Enrique Gil's Career Is Compared To John Lloyd Cruz'sEnrique Gil's career path is being compared to the same path John Lloyd Cruz took when he was still starting in showbiz.
Lloydie has been successfully paired with Bea Alonzo, but he also found his own success with other on-screen partners such as Sarah Geronimo, Angel Locsin and Toni Gonzaga. All of his movies with these leading ladies have been box-office hits.
Enrique, on the other hand, also has a handful of leading ladies who he worked with such as Julia Montes, Julia Barretto and Liza Soberano for the upcoming ABS-CBN series "Forevermore."
That is something that Enrique appreciates about his career--that he has the chance to work with many actresses. There's a good and bad side, though, because a lot of their fans don't understand why he's constantly being paired to other actresses.
But of course, Enrique said that if they are really their fans, they must support them no matter who they are paired with.
He likes being compared to Lloydie because he also worked with different actresses. He said it's good to know how different he is when he's doing scenes with a certain actress. He gets to realize what more he can improve on.
"Forevermore" will be directed by Theodore Boborol and Cathy Garcia-Molina. Considering how successful their two previous series ("Angelito" for Theodore and "Got To Believe" for Cathy), there is pressure for Enrique and Liza to have a successful drama as well.
Having Direk Cathy is like a cherry on top, Enrique said.
He is nervous but he doesn't want to think about it because they have the best director, a good script and a good story. He just has to trust them.
Enrique just wants the viewers to fall in love with the characters and the story. "Yun ang gusto namin, yung ma-feel nila kami, at 'pag na-feel nila kami, 'pag kumapit na, I believe magiging okay na."
Enrique was the one who asked Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos that he wants to work with Liza in a project. Many were asking why he didn't ask for Julia Montes given the series they did in the past.
He finds Liza very soft-spoken and innocent. It was just a joke he said to Malou, so he was surprised to find that there is indeed a project for them.
Malou was able to watch Enrique and Liza in "She's The One," the movie that starred Bea and Dingdong Dantes. She apparently saw something in them that she recommended a project for the two of them.
Although he is open about liking Liza, Enrique said he hasn't made a move on her. They are not close yet, but they usually text and talk to each other. He is not courting her, though.
"Wala pang moves kaya gusto kong magsimula na sa taping para may masagot ako." They just made the teaser, but they are preparing to shoot for the first scenes now.
They were not able to be close when they did "She's The One," but it helped a lot for them when they did workshops for "Forevermore." Their characters in "She's The One" are bestfriends, so they weren't able to bond that much.
He dismissed the reasons why he wasn't paired up again with the two Julias of ABS-CBN. It was a management decision, the actor said, so he's just doing what he was told.
He was sad, though, not to work again with Julia Barretto because they really became close doing "Mira Bella." There were rumors that issues about her family affected her standing with the network.
Enrique does not think that these issues affected their loveteam. Maybe the management just saw something different will suit them apart.
Julia has another show, Enrique said. It's okay for him to be paired with another actress because he's used to it already. He and Julia still communicate with each other, and they regularly see one another in "ASAP." The friendship will always be there, he added.
