Joey Marquez Not Planning To Enter Politics AgainJoey Marquez is done with his political career. He wants to focus now on his showbiz career because he believes he has a better future with it.
Joey was the mayor of Paranaque City from 1995 to 2004. He tried to run as Paranaque representative in 2004, but he lost. When he run as mayor in 2010 and congressman in 2012, he also didn't win.
Showbiz is better than politics, which turned him bald, he joked. Joey said politics is dirty already while showbiz gives him a peace of mind.
"Lahat ng tingin ng tao sa pulitiko, kung hindi walanghiya, magnanakaw na, 'di ba?" There's no more prestige to being a politician, although he considers himself a public servant more than a politician.
Joey was once caught in a graft case, but he was cleared because there was not enough evidence.
However, Joey said he does not regret being part of politics. He served the public well, and he did not benefit even a single centavo from being a public servant.
Jeremy Marquez, his son, is the barangay captain of BF Homes Paranaque. Joey said he simply advised his son to serve the public well.
Meanwhile, Joey has been single for so long. Although he misses having someone by his side, it's hard to find someone who can accept that she's only the second priority.
Joey's first priority is his children. "Parati ko sinasabi na, never compete with my children, you will lose, parating ganun."
Asked if he doesn't get jealous that his bestfriends Richard Gomez and John Estrada are happily married, Joey said marriage doesn't always mean happiness, although he's happy for both Richard and John.
For him, he's happy being single. He also hasn't seen anyone who he can be with like Alma Moreno. They were married for 14 years. It's hard to invest in something that you feel will disappear all of a sudden, Joey said.
