Vice Ganda Talks About His Role In "Praybeyt Benjamin 2"

Vice Ganda is gunning to become the "first gay action star" in the Philippines for his role in the 2011 "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" and this year's "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin," which is an official entry to the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Vice said the second installment to the series is more physically challenging because there are fight scenes with Tom Rodriguez. They even had a fight instructor who forced them to act more naturally.

At first, they were enjoying the scenes. But upon coming home, he and Tom realized how physically exhausting the scenes are. Vice said he enjoyed those scenes because he really wants to do action movies.

Vice compared his co-star Derek Ramsay in the first installment of the film and Richard Yap, who will play his commanding officer in this year's movie. He considers this film more special because of Richard and Alex Gonzaga.

Back then, Derek was like a piece of meat that every girl shrieks whenever he would take off his shirt. This film, Richard also brought that appeal, but he's also making comedy. It becomes easier for Vice to make the audience laugh because Richard is also doing his fair share of comedy.

He remembered how hard it was for him to do "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy" because all four characters were played by him.

Speaking of "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy," it was considered as the highest grossing Philippine film of all time, according to Star Cinema. It was somewhere in the vicinity of P456 million.

During the first week, Vic Sotto's "My Little Bossings" was the number one in box office. When the run ended, "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy" took home the trophy for being the highest-grossing during that year's MMFF.

This year, other movies competing are "Feng Shui 2," "Shake, Rattle & Roll XV," "Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2," "Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo," "English Only Please," "Muslim Magnum .357," "and My Big Bossing."

Is Vice nervous of competing with "Feng Shui 2" starring Kris Aquino and Coco Martin or with "My Big Bossing" starring Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon? He's not nervous for now, but maybe he will be once the first week opens up.

Whatever he claims in box-office figures, it seems like God gives that to him. Every year, he feels more blessed that his movies are raking up the money.

One day, he searched the top-grossing films in 2011, 2012 and 2013 on Google, and found out they were all his and Wenn Deramas' films. In 2011, he did "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" while in 2012, he did "Sisterakas" with Kris and Ai-Ai Delas Alas. Last year, he starred in "Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy."

His target for "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin" is P600 million. There's nothing wrong with expecting a big amount like that, Vice said.

Direk Wenn said they can breach the box-office milestone reached by the first installment of "Praybeyt Benjamin." That's where he is basing his expectations from. You also have to take into consideration that the first installment was aired in October, and not during the film fest.

"The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" earned P342 million. The combined box-office gross of Vice Ganda's films since 2007 has reached P1.5 billion.

Meanwhile, this is the second time Vice and Tom are working together. They were together in 2010's "Petrang Kabayo." Tom was chosen as the contrabida in the film because the role requires for a good-looking man, which is Vice's character's weakness.

Tom will play the head of a terrorist organization, who planted a bomb only Bimby's character can diffuse.

Instead of fighting against Tom's character, Vice wouldn't be able to do it because he's attracted to him. Asked if this is true in real life, Vice said "yes."

"Kaya gusto ko ang fight scene kasi may mga yakapang hindi sinasadya."

Vice related that Tom has a sweet-smelling breath, so Vice doesn't talk much when they have scenes together. As usual, Tom will have a topless scene in the film.

Vice said he was the one to ask Star Cinema for an action-comedy film. Tom said Vice proved that he can do action scenes in the film. He has "The Matrix" moves. If he wants to be an action star, Vice certainly proved himself in this film, Tom said.
