Jake Cuenca Not Pressured After Studying Acting In NYCJake Cuenca has been gone for a month to study acting in New York City. Even though he gained more knowledge about his craft, Jake doesn't want to pressure himself too much.
He took up a short course in Method Acting from The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in NYC. Jake said he would never forget this experience.
It's something he needed in his career and in his life. He had a deeper understanding of the craft he loved to do, which is acting. The biggest bonus is winning an international award while he was there.
Jake won as Best Actor from the 2014 International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) for his role in the indie film "Mulat."
He wants to go back to the city to pursue more acting courses. Maybe after his new teleserye, "Pasion de Amor," he can go back and take a longer acting course.
Jake is aware that there will be added pressure on him once he finishes the course. But like what the school taught him, you cannot force method acting. You will have to wait for the method to come to you.
Jake said he's just going to do what's best for his job. He wants this knowledge to come naturally in his characters.
"So, for me, I’ll just do my best like I always do and I’ll just let everything that I’ve learned to come out naturally."
He wants to continue studying because he also wants to establish an acting school in the future.
When he was in New York, some people invited him to audition for Hollywood and to try out his luck there. But of course, Jake just signed a two-year contract with ABS-CBN, and he cannot obligate himself to try out Hollywood.
If he ever decides to try his luck there, he needs to take a longer course in acting. He might have to take a three-month acting course. Maybe he can even be an acting coach while he was there. He can also hire his teacher to help him in his auditions.
Hollywood is not the reason why he wanted to improve his craft. If he can enter the international scene, then why not? But right now, he has a soap opera to do.
Some of the Hollywood stars he met while there were Vincent D'Onofrio ("Men In Black"), Donnie Wahlberg ("Zookeeper") and Jason Lee ("Alvin and the Chipmunks"). He also attended the Q&A of Robert Downey Jr. ("Iron Man").
Some of his teachers were also actors. He met a lot of people, which made him want to share his experiences too.
There are local artists who also tried their luck in Hollywood, but failed. Jake doesn't want to be like them, so he studied and prepared for it. At the end of the day, what's important is he learned something too.
"Regardless of the fact na you did the project there or you didn’t." He went there to become a better actor and to broaden his knowledge in his craft.
